67 Tail light backing plates

How did the backing plates on a 67 RS come from the factory? Would there be splater paint overspray on them or were they a aluminum finish?

They were like a galvanized finish as seen in the photo below. They did not get overspray on them as the taillights were installed after the trunk was sprayed.
