Camaro No. 1 from LA plant

Does anyone know the story behind the supposedly first Camaro from the LA plant. I saw a rerun of the Mecum auction in Indy from last May when it was offered for sale. My question was that it had no emblems or insignias at all. Was this from the factory (if so, why?) or were they removed later? The announcer had his story but you know how that goes.
