thanks for the 1st part of the question. but is the stater a high torque solenoid with the copper spacer or not?

Marty

I have a 1108367 starter in the garage and it has the long solenoid on it, stamped 1114344. I bought it at a swap meet so I'm not sure what it was originally out of.

I can't remember if this is my original solenoid or not, it's 1114356.  What do you mean by copper spacer?

Because the H.T. starter housing is longer the solenoid requires a spacer at the front mounting point (where the terminals are).

The Z starter was the same as the 327/210hp starter. There wasn't anything high torque about it. They did the same thing with the battery - the Z used the smaller Y55 battery.
It looks like they had some rules about how much cubic displacement was required before the component was 'upsized' - and they didn't account for compression ratio.
That said, the starter and battery for the Z are not known problem areas, so their methodology seemed to have worked.
