Partial cowl tag number

MY cowl tag, which is the only number I have on this car, appears to be short one number. Is this normal? It reads 8N39682 but there is no 6th digit, or any damage that might indicate a 6th digit was erased.

Are you talking about the cowl tag above the master cylinder on the firewall, or the VIN plate on top of the instrument panel behind the windshield? Got a photo?

It's under the cowl at the passenger side/middle close to where th epaaenger side wiper is attached

So you are talking about the partial vin number stamp by the windshield, correct? Can you post photos? Is the full vin number gone? Have you checked for partial vins on the engine and trans.
