4053 Carb Date

I have a Holley - 3923289DZ List 4053 with a date code of 281. The 2 in the date code means the year I think. Does that mean the carb is a 1962, 1972, 1982, etc?

Yes; it is likely a GM service replacement carb circa 1972.

Learning more and more about less and less...
