Original gas tank

Were they painted or plated? I removed my tank and it appears to be painted black over mild steel. Looks like it has never been removed. The inside is definitely plated zinc or galvanized.

The original tank was terne-plated steel inside and out; similar to galvanizing, except it was primarily lead instead of zinc.

That's why it is a funny color. Can't really see the crystal formation. Thanks John.
