I have what I believe to be a Dz302 out of a 1969 z-28, it is just a short block [no cyl. heads], but I am going to sell it if it is the real thing. Here is the prob. the block has been decked and you cannot make out the stamped numbers anymore. The block casting number is 3970010, the number on the crank is 1178, the crank has a single V notch on the flywheel mounting flange. Is this enough info. for you to tell me what this engine is or are there more numbers that I missed? It has been bored .030 over and has 11.5:1 TRW pistons in it and it has a solid lifter camshaft. Thanks

Unfortunately without the original stamping on the engine pad the only "302" part you have is the crankshaft.  On the positive side, the "302" cranks sell for about $600.00 and up depending on condition and tolerances.     :)

what is the date code on the back of the block. that is a good place to start. the 010 block was used for many years as a 2 and 4 bolt main set up.

After the 3970010  there is a  "K 2" I don't see any other numbers unless I am not looking in the right spot. This is a 4 bolt main engine.

The casting date will be on the rear flange of the block, about 4" toward the passenger side from the distributor hole.

There are no other numbers on the rear flange of this block other than the 3970010 then K 2 and that is all. I will try to send a picture soon.
