What is the earliest known car that received the Door VIN tag ? And did the door have the provision for it? thanks

william

Earliest car in db is 08A N6712xx. Might be an outlier; seems to become more common 08E. Think it was required by September 1.

Just to put closure on this, here's the notification sent to dealers. Literal interpretation, starting with VIN N678254 all cars had them.

The labels were supposed to self-adhere but quickly fell off. Chevy added the Mylar overlay, solving the problem.

There is no way to pinpoint exactly when the labels entered production. Cars were not built in VIN order; 08E spans Aug 26-Sep 3. Some or all cars built during that span had one.

Was that mylar overlay something added immediately or did that happen after a month or so of having them fall off?  Curious if I should addd an overlay on my 09D car.  If my car should have it, does anyone know what it looked like - how much larger than VIN sticker, radiuses corners, etc?

It was immediately after implementation.

That bit of history was provided by John Z, who worked for Chevy back in the day.

It looks like my car was built about 3 days prior to when the decals started....Joe

Were the two horizontal ribs on the door shell always there or was that a design change for this label?  I.e. if the latter, then if your door has the ribs, it should have the VIN sticker?

The ribbed door was introduced prior to the requirement of the blue VIN decal...Joe
