Rear Wheel Housing Paint

I have been chipping 50 year old Ziebart under coating from my '69 Z and realized that it kept this car from turning into swiss cheese in the Midwest winters! It really preserved the original paint and discovered that the rear wheel housings show only the primers and the original metallic frost green paint with no sign of blackout, my question is did the factory ever blackout the rear wheel housings like I see on so many restored Camaros? or when I repaint the car replicate what's in the picture, I also posted the part of the underbelly where you can clearly see the frost green overspray and then the blackout overspray for the rocker panels since this car is a rally sport Z.

What you stripped out of the wheel wells was the original undercoating/sound deadener.

Here's some other photo evidence of what William is talking about.  Shots of my stripping activity on my 15,000 mile car.  Under factory undercoating in the wheel well area should show a mix of primer and body color overspray.

On another note regarding the under body gray primer, it looks almost silver/dark gray, not sure if that metallic look is just from the frost green overspray or the gray has metallic in it?? , any advice as to what manufacture makes a duplicate or very close to that original color that I can use for restoration?

The shimmer is from the metallic frost green overspray...

I sectioned in 3-4" of the outer wheelhouse on a silver car and it looked the same.


Here where there isnt as much overspray you can see the actual color.






The original gray primer is a little darker than Nason 2k selectsand grey. typcially I add a little black toner to it, not much- maybe 1/2 an ounce in a quart.
