Fuel Pump Plate finish

So when the engine was hot tested at Flint, there was just an opening where the fuel pump block plate would mount? If so, would there be some oil leakage from the opening?

Chick,
I sent you a bunch of both sides of the plate a while back. I don't know if I still have them, I'll have to take a look when I get home. In Pacific Grove for 2 or 3 more days. I lost my Microsoft picture manager, and any pictures I post here now end up being baby size. Can't see them well. I had that picture manager down to a science. Gonna have to post another way.

I checked again Danny and do not have as I probably did not save. When determining what mine should be I'm pretty sure yours was one of the reasons I did mine in black along with another 68Z I had checked.
These the are the two I had but did not know which engine what came off of. As stated earlier in a post, one was off a 67 HE 327-300 hp engine and one was off our 68 302. One was natural and one dip painted black.

Answer from John...

"The fuel pump rod channel (hole) is drip-lubricated from the eccentric on the camshaft that drives it, and a very small amount of oil will eventually find its way down that hole without the rod in place. The engine ran on the test stand for less than 30 seconds, and the oil was drained before the engine left the test stand. The hole in the bottom area of the opening in the block provided a drain path for the "drip" oil back into the pan."

When asked about how engines were shipped to the assembly plate (relative to covering over that hole), John's response was...

"As I recall, in the earlier years, Flint V-8 used a formed cardboard plug in the rod hole (like the ones they used in vacuum fitting holes and in heater hose fitting holes), and later on that changed to a flimsy vacuum-formed plastic cover/plug that also served as a paint mask."
