Oooops, sounds like you bought a set second hand.  I agree with Z28Z11, sell those and just buy a new set from your favorite supplier.  Darn things aren't all that expensive new anyway, which is why it's such a popular option.

The crower rods I bought are around 800 bucks new... and they are rated good for 8200 rpm, would be real nice to use them. We'll see what happens...

Crowers are nice pieces for sure, best out there my opinion, but overkill on a street motor.

When I mentioned "aren't that expensive" I was referring to one of several other brands.  You can do a forged full floating I-beam with cap screws for under $300 from several brands like Eagle, Scat, Manley etc....and there is absolutely nothing wrong with these.

You'll be into rebuilding stock rods for more than half that which is why the aftermarket option makes sense.  Stronger, lighter etc... for very little extra money.

I have bought a couple sets of these from Skip White. Ebay listing with ARP 2000 7/16" bolts sold complete for $389 and rated for 700hp.

Great deal on what is a "really nice" set of rods.

Just an obsessive-compulsive first gen car guy...

did I mention I like three pedals in a car?
