brake pedal and booster install ??

I'm ready to install the brake booster and pedal assembly. my question, does the firewall/insulation pad get sandwiched between the brake pedal assembly and the firewall or does the pedal assembly mount directly against the firewall? thanks

The forward flange on the pedal support mounts solid against the inside of the firewall; there's an inverted "U" cutout in the dash mat that provides clearance.
