Interesting mine is only a week later on the data plate and my vin is stamped at the oil filter.

Stunning car, and color combo.
So I don't want to help the re-stampers, but the original stamp block us that much different, to be able to tell?

I understand about the factory virgin block surface as one lead to an original stamp, I just wonder if there are slight deviations during a shift of stamping.

Or is it the characters themselves that wouldn't;t have changed, and once a difference is noted, than it becomes under suspicion?

My engine stamp is 2 days earlier and I can definitely tell the difference.

I can see an engine prefix being very close to slightly under a head, but can a hand held VIN stamper get that close to the head edge?

Probably could if you take the head off - but make sure and grind the block flat first - lol.

Not saying that is the case here, but the stamp and the block surface looks funny to me.

Does look to be decked and filed, and the pad appears hand stamped using wrong fonts. Just my opinion but not real.
Just an obsessive-compulsive first gen car guy...

did I mention I like three pedals in a car?

It's best not to be too specific about what is wrong with the stamping.
