Carpet Dimmer Switch Grommet Color

Was the grommet installed in the carpet over the headlight dimmer switch always black, regardless of the car's interior color, or was it matched to carpet color?
I have a black plastic grommet marked 'Niagara Plastics Erie PA' and '833' which I think is the right vintage, but not sure if it's the correct color for a dark blue interior.

PS I may be becoming obsessive over tiny details  ::)

Tim, I want to say they were all black.  I have yet to see a color matched dimmer grommet..

Thanks Darrell, the only reason I asked is because a buddy has several in various colors, a dark tan, medium blue, dark blue and a burgundy. He believes they are from Oldsmobiles or Buicks, but they may even be from non-GM brands (he had a mis-spent youth and owned several blue ovals....). Some have Niagara Plastics on the back, some don't, but I believe Niagara supplied many manufacturers regardless.
So just got me wondering about 67-69 grommets.

Yes, as Darrell mentioned they are black and have never seen one any other color but would like to mention for anyone that the grommet that comes with the carpet is WRONG as the dimmer switch diameter hole is much larger so save that original grommet as Tim did. I really had not taken note of that until a friend showed me some time ago but fortunately I had saved mine and since then picked up a spare at a flea market for 1 dollar.... :)

For future searches, this pic shows the difference in the original to the right vs. what comes in carpet sets (left one).

Thanks for the comparison pics Chick. Was Alliance an additional supplier to Niagara, or did they change between 68 and 69? If another supplier, is it just an Erie coincidence ;) that both are from the same town in PA?

Good question Tim but I just assumed they were both suppliers. Maybe JohnZ would know but with the number of GM cars being built it would be hard to imagine how many of those grommets were consumed each day.

Don't know how the suppliers lined up, but GM needed 25,000 of those grommets every day.

Thanks John. With that amount of items required at assembly plants across the country, you'd have to think that GM would've had multiple suppliers to limit the possibility of a supply shortage.
