"Chirping 2nd gear." That's cute. ;-) If you aren't smoldering third you need a new power plant lol. Even with 3.31s I couldn't think about going full bore in 2nd. Just busting your chops Gary...

No problem Dave... :)    As I said, it's a factory original stock '72 BASE 350 that I rebuilt (30 over) about 15 yrs ago..  For what it is, I'm pleased with how it runs... :)    (factory rating was 200 bhp).. :)

PS.  What you really need is to get some of that Big Fat Block weight over the drive wheels!!  :)

Thanks! Don't see too many of those in that drivetrain. What's the stamped axle date?

Probably had a 3.55 axle originally.

Curious what a 69 3:73 rear axle code would be? I assumed ours did not have the original rear

The BU code was originally the std rear in '69 Z28s, and would have been 3.73:1 ratio.

Gary, positraction was recommended for Z28s - but not required. 3.73 was the standard ratio. Yes BU is the most common, but there are Z28s that received the BO 3.73 open rear end.

You are right Bryon,, but your answer wasn't complete either (to his question of 'Curious what a 69 3:73 rear axle code would be?')

The complete answer would have included the QX code as well as the BU and BO codes, but the BEST answer of all would have been to refer him to the full table in the archive...      http://www.camaros.org/drivetrain.shtml#AxleCodes

I don't think we fully understand the question.

In 1969 a 3.73 ratio was standard for a Z28 and the optional - performance - ratio - for L78 and L89. I think a 3.73 ratio could also be special ordered with L34, L48 and LM1.
