Would a Hurst Comp Plus shifter bolt on a 72 Saginaw 4 speed without some work? The shifter is not an original 69 but the after market version that looks similar. Were there several different four speed shifters for the Saginaw 4 speed?

Thanks guys

You'll need the correct rods for a Saginaw. Muncie rods are different.

Yes I know what about the ability to bolt a 69 Shifter to a 72 4 speed Tranny?

The 69 Camaro Hurst shifter OEM or aftermarlet shifter should both work on a 1972 Saginaw trans if it has the threaded bosses like the 69 Saginaw.
The same OEM  4sp Hurst was used on the Saginaw and the Muncie and the OEM Sag mount plate is the same as the SB Muncie mount plate. The rods and trans levers are different

For some reason, Hurst did not list an install kit for the 69 Camaro with Saginaw, they told you to use the original factory rods, levers, and mount plate with the new aftermarket Hurst shifter.

Joe thanks for the info.

I have a 72 Saginaw in my car and a Hurst Comp Plus shifter (aftermarket) now. The shifter appears to had been broken where the stick bolts on and someone welded a "L" bracket to it and then bolted on the stick. Then someone heated the stick and bent it over towards the driver. It is really strange. The reason for this post was tp see if this was done to compensate for a different type of mounting scenario for the 72 Saginaw. Thanks for the replys.

pictures will help me help :)
but you may have a 68-72 Chevelle shifter

The 67-69 Camaro shifter has more like a 45 deg bend offset
the Chevelle shifter has a 90 deg bend offset

1st is 67-69 Camaro
2nd is 68-72 Chevelle

The aftermarket Hurst shifter is a great unit but it needs to be set up with the correct parts and correct chrome stick
I been collecting, buying and selling Hurst and Muncie shifters for over 30 years and still learning about them

Those pictures are exactly what I have. So I must have a Chevelle shifter in my car. The stick I believe may be the right one but someone heated it and bent it over.

Thank you very much Joe!

your shifter is what I call a "Chevelle" shifter but was also used on other cars

your mount plate looks like the correct Hurst aftermarket 67-68 Camaro Muncie and Saginaw (also used on others)
should have part no. 5284

I rebuild shifters and see many "pot luck" shifters made of a mixture of parts and back yard bubba blue wrench fixes  :)

sixt9x33rs

The tranny and shifter are definitely Bubba brand!

I have sourced an OEM shifter and a round shifter that is going back in the car.
