I need some help on Z28 options.  I am considering buying a car through a private auction site that looks like a 69 Z28.  I remember that they did not come with A/C and must have a 4-speed.  This car does not have power brakes or steering.  Was this possible on 69 Z28's?  Also, I think 69 Z28's had silver grilles, not black ones.  Can you see anything on this car that would signify a non-Z28?

Thanks very much!

william

One required option for 67-69 Z/28s was power front disc brakes; a very few '69s had power 4-wheel discs. The car in the photos does not have power brakes and has a non-original master cylinder. I would pass on it.

Z/28s were typically modified and raced; they are easily cloned. There is a lot to look for, too much to go into here. I strongly suggest you hire THE expert to examine any car you maybe interested in PRIOR to purchase.

I agree with William, the liklihood of that car being a real Z is very low.

I agree previous posts: Check with Jerry, post trim tag picture. I can already see a number of things that are not correct under the hood. Also, another telltale sign is the presence or lack of the exhaust hanger plate on driver side rear frame in the wheel well. If it's missing, the car was not an original dual exhaust car. Finally, you are correct that non-RS Camaros had the silver grille (except for Cortez Silver cars, perhaps?).

A good sign would be a correctly (not restamped) stamped 302 engine with a partial vin that agrees with the hidden vins. Post photos here to have the stamping verified by the experts.
