I am changing my '67, 327 from a auto. trans. to a Muncie.  I am installing a 14" flywheel with a 621 Bellhousing.  My question is what starter do I need for this conversion? I am getting a lot of misinformation about this.  It seems the new starter must be of a short snout kind because that big flywheel is right there!  My original starter has the straight bolt pattern.

You will need a staggered bolt pattern nose cone starter. Don't say "327" engine to the parts counter guy or you will get the inline bolt pattern nose cone and it will not bolt up or work. Try asking for a 350 Corvette starter. Many 350 engines were equipped with the larger flywheel/bellhousing setup. You have to use a starter that has the nose cone that matches the bigger setup.

Have the parts guy cross it to a Delco #1108338, which was used on '69-'71 350 Corvettes with a 4-speed; they used the 621 bellhousing and the 14" 168-tooth flywheel.

Well, I went to NAPA and asked for a '69 350 Corvette starter.  And, it works!  Thanks all for your input.
