I see that American Autowire sells LED OEM Style Replacement Bulbs...
http://www.americanautowire.com/catalogs/AAW_sections/AAW09_Lighting&Sockets.pdf

This seems like a cheap alternative to the expensive LED conversions kits.

ARe these bulbs any good? Do they put out good/bright light?
If so, why would anyone buy the expensive kits??

Those bulbs are not worth using in any taillamp housing where the socket comein in from the bottom as they do not "reflect" the light inside the housings like a normal mono-filament bulb. So these are almost useless in first gen Camaro's in the taillamp departement. Now the fron marker lamps would be okay as they come in straight from the badk of the housings, same for the RS backup lamps. The "true LED" lights you see made for Camaro's are a properly designed system where the taillamps light up like a modern car, thus giving a more uniform finish or result when installed. And you are right, they are CHEAP alternative....cheap being the key word............RatPack..................
Just keep livin......L I V I N .............

Good point about the tail light socket mounts come in from the bottom,
so these LED bulbs would be pointing UP.
I didn't think of that.
Thanks.
