If you use the macro button on the camera (little flower symbol), you should be able to get much clearer closeup pics.

Never seen one without an assembly date and with a VIN.

The camera I use for the shop is an old Kodak DC2400 - no buttons other than flash:)  It's worked well for probably 8 years.  I'll take one with my wifes and get a clearer pic.  The pad definitely is missing the date/code stamp - not a sign of it at all.
