Hi all.  Newbie here.  I'm looking for info on how you guys are able to track down cars to rematch them with their lost engines?  Helping a friend who's late husband left behind a DZ302.  I don't have the vin yet, but hoping once we do that we could try to match the engine back to the original chassis. If that fails, what's the next best way to sell one of these engines?

Also are there any other things I should look for to help verify this is legit?  So far it seems to check all the boxes I'm aware of, but this is out of my experience.  Thanks!

I can help you modify the title of this thread with the VIN once you have it. Posting in this forum is one of the best ways to help reunite an engine with a car, if it still exists. There are also Facebook groups that you can post in that area specific to Z28s and someone may own the car. But many people search here with CRG.

Get good, cleat pictures of the casting number, casting date, engine pad stamp, and the partial VIN stamp on the block and post them here. Once the local experts have verified the stampings are legitimate, there is an orpahns page here on CRG where you can post all the information. Good luck, and thanks for trying to do the right thing!

I have the VIN, but I'm not certain I have the last digit correct.  19N557634 The front pad is stamped: V0526DZ.  Heads are 3927186 and finally the intake has 3932472.  No sign of the carb yet.

Send me some pics. The engine date and VIN don't match up.

Check your messages.

It's 19N65763x or 19N65768x

I am not sure on the last digit or maybe last two.

Try rubbing some chalk on the partial VIN area, then carefully brush it off.  That may help reveal the last digit. I can' t currently tell what it is.
