1969 Z "matching numbers"

I saw this Z that the seller is claiming to be numbers matching, but without any pics to support the claim. Right away the trim tag caught my eye, which has clear deviation from other cars that I have in my own file.  I would like others opinions and insight are welcome here on the tag.

I also see many 12B cars, but can't recall or have any 12C, or 12D. Was there a Christmas break, or is there in fact many 12C, and 12D cars out there?

Thanks

The body tag looks ok; VIN is in line with the information.

Maybe he edited the ad, I find nothing to insinuate the engine is original to the car. The torched-off T-bars and 3 leaf springs are a concern.

Looks to be a decent driver.

When did they start putting the X codes on the tags?

I don't like the tag. All the text is too far to the right.

BULLITT65

Rick they started the X codes in the middle second week of December, some had the X codes some didn't for 12B.

68 ragtop I also noticed an issue with the text. While the VIN does line up with the 12B tag, I could not look past that text.

William are you comparing this tag to other originals. I sent you a PM

Has anybody been able to narrow it down to what day they made the change? I would think with all the tags we have access to it could be figured out.

Well I think you would have to have NCRS data on a few data points of production days of those cars for that week to narrow it down. But I am not privy to the CRG data base. William may be able to shed some light on how deep the info they have on hand is.

The dealer data is missing for that early NOR VIN range.

Yes IMHO. Compares well with other stampings done at the same time.

Thanks William.  There is no photo of the VIN posted.  I will contact them and ask.  Car VIN is 124379N694114.  Has a JL8 rear that was purported to have been installed in the 70's.  Here is a cowl tag photo.

I do not think the powertrain is original to the car as the numbers do not match.   It should be looked at as "driver quality".  Price is about where it should be IMHO.

LA built Z's did not have an "X" code.
