Hi guys new to the CRG. can you experts tell me if this appears real or fake stamp?  It's a 618 casting with a c89 casting date. Owner claims there is a vin stamped on the oil filter flange but it is very tough to make out any numbers. To me it looks almost too nice to be original stamping on the pad but  I'm new to this game. The engine was rebuilt this spring so with the fresh paint it's tough to tell.

Wow there is NO WAY to tell with that picture. I don't know much, but I know it would have to be cleaned of paint carefully with Lacquer thinner. And then a clear close-up picture taken to even begin to start to diagnose. See my picture below of a '68 stamp, that's what ya need. Danny

Thanks Danny. Sorry for the bad pic. Engine is on the east coast and I'm on the west. I have better pics but every time I tried to post them it said file too big. Not sure how to reduce the size without compromising quality

Dvbombr, email it to me (my email address is in my signature) and I'll post it for you.

I compared it to a known real March 14 DZ engine and think it may be ok.

Need to remove the paint to verify broach marks.
Learning more and more about less and less...

Thanks for checking. Any chance you could post a pic of the known original?  Thanks for your time

Ed. Emailed you the pictures thanks for the help👍

Yep. I got them. It looks good to me, but I've asked Kurt for his opinion. It would be better if you could have the owner remove the paint from the pad though. Use a paint remover. NOT a scraper!!
