Air filter cuting into hood insulation

I had a K&N filter where the air filter profile is too tall.  The nut on the top of the housing has worn a hole in the hood insulation.  I purchased new hood insulation and an AC Delco stock filter.  It looks like I am going to have the same problem.  Is there a stock low profile air filter out there?

Are you running a drop base?

I am running the standard based to the carb that came with the car.  I assume it's a reproduction.

It must be.  I went to Pomona last week to look under Camaro hoods to see what other people have done.  No one had hood insulation.  Not one car.  The search continues for the proper base.

Even the original air cleaners rubbed the cars with insulation.  My father pulled the insulation on the green 68 L78 car for this very reason.

You can make out the impression the air cleaner lid was already making in this vintage Hot Rod article back in 68

Thanks for all of the feedback. Changed the air element. Let's see how long the insulation lasts.
