I didn't have a original to compare to only NOS. Lots of sharp casting flash and poor chrome shine on the GM. The customer chose the CHQ.

Generally what we call 'NOS' is really OTC parts made perhaps many years after the factory production ended, and generally those type of 'nos' parts are not up to the quality of the originally installed parts on the assembly line.  Personally, I prefer 'rechromed' original parts over those NOS or reproduction parts.

The re-chromed parts didn't lose the definition? I don't have good luck with the Pot Metal resto services. And way expensive. If i had a part that wasn't reproduced then there would be no choice but the type of shows I go to nobody can tell its repop. Concourse different story.

Yes, you have to be very careful with the rechromers you choose and make sure they understand that 'retained part detail' is a big consideration; with pot metal parts that is even more a consideration, but is true even with steel parts.  If you are rechroming the 'pebbled' part of that taillight housing (that gets painted black?).. THAT would be a great concern, and since it's going to be painted, retaining the pebbling detail is much more important than removing all the pitting...

Mike,
The one's I had chromed by S&H I had in storage since the mid 70's. They had very small pitting all over the surface which required a minimum of work. The pebbled area retained it's detail and was pleased with the overall finished product. Also had my 67 window frames done which had more extensive pitting and was again pleased with results.
