Did the 69 4 speed shift lever use a lock nut on the shifter ball ? There is no lock nut shown in the AIM or my 67-70 GM camaro parts book. I don't recallĀ  seeing one on any original cars I have looked at over the past years.

Nope, no lock nut or setscrew on the chrome knob.

4-speeds without a console used a different two-piece knob with the shift pattern on the upper half, where the lower half served as a lock nut.

The P&A 30A describes it as a "Knob Unit" and clearly shows it in two parts just like John described it.

Because ALL the Parts people make money that way. Because it is in a catalog, doesn't always mean it is correct or original.
