Apparently you can.  I just made a post, then went in and deleted it, but perhaps it works like the modify; you can only modify/delete for a limited period of time, perhaps until someone else replies to it??

It's time dependent. I know you can edit the post up to 100 minutes.

The time thing make sense. This explains why the tabs disappear.
