Yes. Found the same AMK info as you did. No captive washer. It's integral to the head.

I'm leaning towards phosphate as well but sure would love to know what the GM defined coating finish is.

I was looking in the M40 section since my car has a TH400. My car is a '68 so the plate and screw is shown on UPC M35 A20 in the AIM.

Can't find any reference to what type of finish the screw is. HBC sells the screws in Silver Cad but I'm not sure that is correct. If I look real closely at my screws I find no trace of Silver Cad. I'm guesing it was a phosphate finish.

The blanking plate in the picture below is installed on the firewall when an automatic transmission is installed to fill the hole used by the clutch rod. Was this plate installed by Fisher and was painted when the firewall was painted or was it later installed after delivery by Fisher. Couldn't find any mention of it in the AIM and am trying to determine the finish on the screws.

Here area few pictures of my '68 "born with" TH400 dipstick. Note that it does not have a part number stamped on it but it does have the "M" stamp. I found this link which seems to indicate that yours may be a '69 dipstick??

Here is a pic of my "born with" TH400 governor cover. I put it in an evaporust bath and then treated it with RPM to protect the finish. It appears to be natural steel.

Like Chick, I too, put mine in Evaporust. Came out very clean so I just put some surface protection on it to prevent future rust. FWIW, attached are a few photo's.

Any thoughts on why some cars have bushings where there is no part number or markings? Do you think it's a case of different suppliers or perhaps the Service replacement bushings only had the part number on them?

Just another reference point for you....

These are the bushings that came out of my '68 01D car. All have integrated washers. Yes, I know, they were pretty bad!  I found no additional washers on the 380's or 361's when the car was disassembled and unfortunately no sign of any tape. I can't attest that they were never changed by a previous owner but I've owned this car since 1978 and it's never been apart. Judging from the condition of them I highly suspect they're original to the car!

Also interesting to note that none of the bushings or cushions had any part numbers or manufacturers mark on them.

The item you're referring to is the sheathing that goes over the taillight harness. You are correct in that the harness enters the trunk from the drivers side. The sheathing covers the harness all the way to the passenger side.

I don't believe that any vendor carries the sheathing. In fact, when you purchase a reproduction harness the sheathing is absent. I took the sheathing off of my old harness and reinstalled it on the reproduction harness in order to make "technically" correct.
