Decoding/Numbers / Re: Brake Line Brackets JL8
January 19, 2021, 05:35:28 PM
Some very early built '69 Camaro's and Nova's had JL8 stamped into the front drum brake hose brackets.

No original JL8 Camaro will have "JL8" stamped into their front brake hose brackets.

If your car is a Z/28, why does it have front drum, brake hose brackets on it?

Thanks to all that replied. I was just trying to see if the Van Nuys cars might have had more lag time on these parts than a Norwood build. I need to get one and wanted a known date for the build of my car.

My 04A built Van Nuys JL8 Z/28 has a 3932388 block, cast B-25-9 and assembled V0318DZ.

They transferred castings between the foundries and the machining operations in order to ensure that the castings were able to be machined in BOTH locations for redundancies in case something happened to one of the machining locations or one of the foundries. There were not that many and very few ended up in a vehicle WE have any interest in.

Guess that makes my car "Double" rare.

Does anyone own a 04A Van Nuys 1969 Camaro that has their original voltage regulator? Would like to know the date off of their 1119515 regulator.

Only interested in the 04A build date and not interested in Norwood built Camaro's.

Thanks, Warren

Did anyone notice the fan shroud is screwed into the top of the radiator? First time I have seen that.

Mild Modifications / Re: Hurst Linkage Hits Trans Tunnel

The answer to your question is in your posting.

"transmission rods supplied with this kit may require slight bending to clear obstructions"

Many aftermarket shifters either the rods or the shifter handle rub or bang onto the tunnel or shifter hole. That is why you see so many hammered tunnels or cutouts around the shifter hole for clearance.

Ed,

The original GM part number for your vacuum advance is 1115355. GM stamped the last three digits of the part number onto the part.

There are plenty on eBay for sale.

Mild Modifications / Re: Muncie trans rod differences
October 14, 2020, 12:37:53 PM
It is because the Big Block engine frame mounts move the engine slightly to the pass side. The reason is, the drivers exhaust manifold would either hit or would be too close to the steering box. So with the engine being shifted to the pass side they had to also offset the transmission cross member. Because of that, to get the shifter handle to sit centered in the hole, they had a different shifter bracket for B/B. To compensate for that they needed shifter rods that were angled differently.

Restoration / Re: 1968 shock codes

No charts that I know of. '68 and '69 Camaro shock codes are the same as far as I know, as they use the same shocks.
