Restoration / AAW 69 Engine harness differences
July 14, 2015, 01:30:35 PM
I bought the harness to my starter and wondered if anyone else ran into the differences I found.
The new one has no insulated wires to the starter, both of my originals are
Wires to the coil on AAW, one is insulated, both of my stock ones are.
The connector on the wiper is brown, original black. The jumper from one connector to the other is the wrong color.
The heater fan wire is an inch shorter and different boot. Probably no big deal but different.
I figured at least the wires would be the right color or covering. The ones on the wiper and coil will be pretty visable.

Originality / wire harness wrap
June 23, 2015, 08:25:07 AM
I have some of my plastic wrap off my harness near the starter, probably from headers. It looks like some kind of cloth wrap was wrapped right at the starter that is still there.  Has anyone seen this and was it used at the end to keep the vinyl from unwrapping?  If not, what was used to keep it from unwrapping?

Anyone going, one better than the other? Cars or parts for sale at the nationals?

I saw a car with plated bolts that held the front wheel moldings on. Anyone here have a survivor car with a shiney finish on these bolts? Surprised they had special bolts just for these but they did look nice

Originality / Original Goodyear wide tread question
April 22, 2015, 08:15:54 AM
I tried to buy a 1968 dated wide tread last night off eBay. It was nos but on a mustang rim. The rim may have been for a 68 Shelby . Little confusion on the rim size. Anyway, what concerned me from bidding anymore was the stamp saying vytacord on the sidewall. Does anyone have an original tire that could see what cord it has? I was thinking it should say nylon?

General Discussion / rebody Z made Hot Rod
April 11, 2015, 09:01:49 AM
Hot Rod had a write up on Barrett Jackson and listed some cars that sold. The green Pratt Z is in there and says an already nice car brought back. A forensic document examiner was used to confirm the Z28s paper trail. Writer must not understand Jerrys comments. Page 58 if you want to look. Just got it yesterday

I am rounding up some info to get my car painted and found some confusing details. I searched and didn't find exactly an answer here or in assembly process.
I read the blacked out firewall was done last on a regular car. I thought a shield was eventually used to keep white cowl paint from going too far down the firewall. I believe I have seen pictures of firewalls with a lot of sloppy white on them. This makes me think the white was done after blackout.
When I was searching today, I read where the cowl was painted then the blackout. I am wondering does the white go down and overlap the black or does the black overlap the white?
Thanks guys. Maybe this will make it easier to find

Restoration / exhaust manifold torque small block
December 10, 2014, 03:14:20 PM
I have searched and looked in assembly manual and not much luck. I did see center bolts 35 outside bolts 15. Is this without gaskets? With gaskets any different? I am using french locks and no gaskets.

Originality / plug wire heat shields on 69

These are stamped AAc on bracket and shield. I thought they were originals and look to have soot under the bracket. Does anyone have a set with this stamp?

Restoration / no exhaust gaskets?
November 29, 2014, 08:23:29 AM
In the process of finishing my motor and never realized the factory didn't use exhaust gaskets. Any problems with this and do you use any kind of sealant?

Friend of mine was curious if his old z is known. He didn't think he could come up with a VIN. It did have some odd stuff. Fathom green Z with a early 68 spoiler. Car had an endura bumper and fiber optics. It was reprinted white and flat black stripes. I think he had it in the mid 70s and was in columbus ohio. Might have had deluxe interior too. Was numbers matching at the time. I  thought with the options maybe someone had heard of it

Decoding/Numbers / Fuel pumps
September 14, 2014, 01:38:21 PM
I was wondering, do the numbers on ac fuel pumps such as 40669, mean it is just for a z, or do some of these pumps have different flow rates? I doubt if I find a 40669 but have seen correct appearing ac logo pumps and curious if they have different GPH ratings  if they take the same size fuel lines

Restoration / Motor mounts
August 22, 2014, 10:01:36 PM
I am not reusing my original non locking motor mounts. I bought a locking set and wondering if they are ok to use with the original frame mounts? I read on a different site that it sounded like all 69 mounts were locking but that's not true.
Thanks guys

Was at a show I went to Saturday. I thought the tag appeared real. 10-10 with dark blue interior. X33d80. Paint appeared to be old lacquer that was checked.

General Discussion / car that lost its barn!
June 19, 2014, 10:10:52 AM
I was on the local volunteer fire dept years ago and a barn fire happened and a 66 Corvette convertible was pushed out and saved from damage. Eventually the owner moved it to another guys where it was along a state road and everyone stopped to look. It wasn't for sale. It was blue, big block, 4 speed,  Drivetrain gone. I can't remember how much interior was in it. Might have been 6-8 years ago.  I now farm behind where the barn was and last 3 years its been parked there.  Here's a sad site in head high weeds.

This might be the first link of a car I have put on here. looked like an original paint z with documents. Thought someone might be interested. I have seen this place have ads before like they sell your car for you. Always wondered how that works and why pay someone to list your car on ebay!

General Discussion / Helicopter crashed in our field
April 25, 2014, 08:39:43 AM
Yesterday 2 guys crash landed a kit built helicopter in one of our fields. It was corn stalks and burnt about 10 acres. Wrong fire department was called and they didn't bring a truck to drive in the field so fire had a good start.
The guys are going to be fine after a neighbor pulled them away from wreckage.
Helicopter was small enough it fit on a rollback. Wasn't much left. It must have been an aluminum block because it melted! You can see valves in one picture

Originality / 40669 fuel pump
April 07, 2014, 04:50:53 PM
Anyone have a picture of an original z fuel pump? I bought this supposedly rebuilt one and it has 2 holes in each place where my replacement has a single hole. On the rebuilt one , these are more like indentions. The hole doesn't go anywhere. I thought these holes leaked gas if pump went bad
