If you have an original driveshaft and would be willing to post information about your car, it would be very much appreciated. Here is what to include...

Year of car
Norwood or Los Angeles car
Month and week of vehicle assembly
Engine
Transmission
Driveshaft length (measured center of u joint to center of u joint)
Driveshaft casting number
Type of attachment to pinion yoke. There are two types: U bolts and the strap and bolts method.
Code stamped on front of passenger side axle tube.
Paint stripes and a picture (if possible)
Position of the u-joint flanges on each end. Some cars were "in-line" and others were "clocked" about 30 degrees off from each other

Carefully clean the area by the oil filter with some paint remover or lacquer thinner.  Do not use anything abrasive.  Then take some more pics at different angles.  I think I see a hint of some numbers. 

I have done oil pan removals both in and out of the car.  I don't think I will ever do another one in the car.  I know it is more work, but your chance of getting a good seal are better when the engine is on a stand.  Also this gives you a chance to check things over closely and address any other issues you may find.  But how you do it is up to you.  Good luck.

I read over all of the options.  Very, very interesting.  I also think it is cool that some of the cars were built with "Show Paint Required".  I wonder what was required for that?  Wet sand, buff and polish?

Which I believe is why some of the D90 stripes don't always line up perfectly.

Gary, are there any marks stamped on the top side of this case?

Although I can not guarantee these are originally from a Camaro, they are most likely from 60s or early 70s GM applications.  

I grabbed a handful from the parts bin of used shims.  Had 6 in my hand and 5 were unique.  Pic attached.

I have been looking at the issue with the small c after the assembly date for several years.  It appears that it may be an inspection mark.  I have a few cases with that small squared off c and some without.  Seems like it is more common in late 68 model year assemblies.

So did you order it by the color name or by the paint sample and code in the book?  Paint samples in books do not always look EXACTLY like
they do on a car.  I am not trying to argue, just trying to get the story straight.

If they are truly from a 1969 engine, they are most likely from a truck or the 396/265hp full size car application. 

I have a low horsepower 396 Impala 1969 engine in storage and I am pretty sure that is what the valve covers look like.
