General Discussion / Re: my 69 Z being restored

So is it at least POSSIBLE that you ordered what you THOUGHT was this Evening Orchid color, but it was really that Olds silver color?  Because the Olds color does have a VERY SLIGHT lavender hue to it.  And this was 44 years ago.

I mean if you were just looking at a book and ordering a color, you might have mistaken one color for another - right?

I have seen that Olds color you mentioned - and that is what I believe it is.

Vintage photo shows it as some type of silver with a VERY SLIGHT lavender hue.

festival

Where are these meetings and is anyone invited to attend?  Depending on the venue and my schedule I would be interested to hear what these guys have to say.

Oh, and it would be nice if you answered questions people asked you.

Nobody knows everything - but most of us are willing to learn.

What is your goal?

The stripes are generally only still there on low mileage original cars.  One orange and one white.

I agree with John.  I have never seen any originals that were zinc plated.

That notch is NOT, I repeat NOT exclusive to the 302.  Some 283s also had it, as noted in the thread above.  Here is the link.

Larry, I am not trying to cast doubt on it being a 302.  Just playing "devils advocate" in this case.  Somebody has to once in a while.

But I am confused on the redline of the original tach picture you posted.  It should be 6000.

What is the rear axle code?  It is located on the front side of the passenger side axle tube.  Also check the casting date - located on the cast iron center section located in the webbing area.

Well that picture is a flywheel, and it is not specific to the 302.  Had lots of applications.

Larry, did you check the engine when you had it out to verify it has a 302 crankshaft in it?
#4045
If you can, post a picture of the original tachometer.

Very nice car.

There was a 68 Camaro in my area in the early 80s that had a similar paint job. But it was very dark blue.  Stripes were very similar.  I wish I knew what happened to that car.

The attached image is from an Impala.  Casting number is 3969341 with casting date I 5 9.  Just for additional reference.  It has the C before the FW.

Mike, yes I would be very interested in your pics of original paint D91. Closeups of the ending point of bottom of stripe will be greatly appreciated.
