Originality / late 68 model year Z28 heads
August 03, 2014, 10:07:33 AM
OK, I know that most (possibly all?) 1968 Z28s used the 3917291 heads with 2.02 intake valves.

I looked at a very late (I think 3rd week of July) 1968 Z28 that did not have the original block but did have some of the original engine parts.

Owner THOUGHT the heads might be original.  But they were casting number 3927186 and dated June of 68.

Is there anyone that can confirm the 186 heads were used on any late model year cars?

Originality / Original Carb Finish
March 29, 2014, 11:51:23 AM
I picked up this carburator the other day.  It is a 7028210 EE carb dated 3627 (362nd day of 1967) for 1968 396/325 hp automatic.

The carb was a GM donated carb for Education purposes, so it saw no use.  It has been slightly modified for teaching purposes and also I assume to disable it from just being taken and bolted onto a car for use.  Also has a sticker on it that says "DONATED BY GENERAL MOTORS CORPORATION FOR EDUCATIONAL PURPOSES".

See these images and I will try to post more later.  They are good references for what an assembly line part looked like.

It appears that 12 bolt rear axles with casting number 3969341 started showing up in 69 Camaros sometime around early August of 1969.  Prior to this, only the 3894860 casting number was used.

What I am looking for are dates (casting date of housing and assembly date stamp - with letter codes - on the axle tube) for early 3969341 axles and late 3894860 axles.  If you know it is original to the car, you can post the body assembly date from the cowl tag too.

Please let me know what you have.  Post pics if possible.  There was probably somewhat of an overlap, but not sure how much.

Thanks in advance!

Several people are working on putting together original driveshaft information for 67-69 Camaros. Items of most interest at this point are below.

If you have an original driveshaft and would be willing to post information about your car, it would be very much appreciated. Here is what to include...

Year of car
Norwood or Los Angeles car
Month and week of vehicle assembly
Engine
Transmission
Driveshaft length (measured center of u joint to center of u joint)
Type of attachment to pinion yoke. There are two types: U bolts and the strap and bolts method.
Code stamped on front of passenger side axle tube.
Paint stripes and a picture (if possible)
Position of the u-joint flanges on each end. Some cars were "in-line" and others were "clocked" about 30 degrees off from each other

Post in this thread if you want. If you would rather not post, but still contribute, send an email to me please. Thanks.

Bryon

*** Modified 3/18/2014 to remove casting number.  Most don't have it and it is a forging number on the yoke.  ***

Is there any way to correctly identify 1969 Camaro Muncie 4 speed shifter rods for a big block?  Do any of them have numbers stamped on them?  I bought about 8 rods from a guy and he said he used to have a correct 69 big block shifter, but sold it years ago without the linkage.  He thought some of the linkage he sold me was correct for that shifter, but I don't know how to identify them.

Were the big block shifter rods thicker than the ones used for the small block or the same size?

Thanks in advance.

Restoration / I need rocker panel moldings
March 30, 2010, 02:10:42 PM
Ok, I need to put new rocker panel moldings on my car.  The originals were missing in action when I got the car.

What company makes the best reproductions?  I am looking to spend around $100 or less.

Here is a link to what I am talking about.
http://www.rickscamaros.com/product.asp?pf%5Fid=LB%2D1&dept%5Fid=3291

Or does anyone know of some good originals for sale?

Thanks in advance.
