This  sounds like the jibberish you get sometimes when you use talk to text.

My father had a May built 1968 Camaro ... finned drums up front smooth in the rear.

Looks as though that is the case.

Can you get us a pic of the other stamping that is visible in the lower left of the second pic?

While the Gardner system is technically more "correct" its fit and function are the same as that of D&R in my opinion. I also think that D&R, at least half of the price of the Gardner system is the way to go unless you are restoring a Z or a COPO that requires that level of perfection.

Assuming that you are talking about a small block car, my vote goes for D & R Classic Automotive's Part # Z00086-2.  This a 2 1/4" aluminized stock appearing dual exhaust for a small block.  I installed this on my '67 convertible and it is perfect, even the underbody brace fits and the pipes run cleanly through the tunnel.

Wow, what an interesting story!  Yes, please post pictures of the car, the tag and any paperwork you have.

Yes, Hurst still makes the competition plus shifter for the 1968.  You can find them on their website or through an aftermarket vendor such as Summit Racing or Jegs.  Amazon and ebay are also good, of course.

Originality / Re: 1967 Dipstick...3896912?

A few years ago they changed the design of 3896912.  It used to be available in the original appearance.  Now it comes with the new style yellow plastic handle.  It is no longer correct appearing.  It should function OK but it will stick out like a sore thumb.

I have found the Ace/True Value hardware seems to have this thin-walled hose as well.

I too am interested to know this information.  Which plants do the codes to the "T", "H", "K" correspond to?

Looks like a 1962 327 from a full size car.

For comparison:

http://collectorcarauction.net/view-consignment-detail.aspx?ConsignmentID=1335

This car was at Carlisle in the Auction last Thursday.  The high bid reach somewhere in the low 30s and it was for sale afterwards for $36,000.  This car was CLEAN and well presented.  It essentially needed nothing.  It was a numbers matching SS350 car with factory AC,  power glide transmission and deluxe red interior with headrests.

I am fairly certain the reference to 1973 and older has to do with emissions requirements in place starting in 1974.

As I recall they were a limited edition numbered series of 430 engines.  The engines all came with a jacket for the owner which corresponded to the number of the engine.  The engines were pretty stout and featured the, then new, fast burn heads which if I recall should have a "D" shaped exhaust port.  Should be a good strong Camaro!
