Looking at it with a magnifying glass my bet would be a nine.

Doesn't look like a 0 in person. Just thought if the  car was out there with a number like that they might want to check it out. Not worth anything to me.

Maintenance / Spring in lower radiator hose?
May 12, 2020, 10:27:05 AM
I purchased a new NAPA (Gates) lower radiator hose for my 69 small block Z-28, it has no spring in the hose. Did factory hoses have a spring? I've always thought it helped prevent collapsing from suction.

General Discussion / Re: Timing issue?

I'm a little confused with the 52 degrees total advance (vacuum plugged) referred to in one of the earlier posts. For distributer part #1111480 69 manual calls for 32 degrees total centrifugal@ 4400 RPM. Add 4 degrees initial total would be 36 degrees total with no vacuum. Am I missing something?

Restoration / Re: Smog tube nuts replacement source?

I clamp vise grips on the tubing wrench to help keep it from spreading apart. Often helps on a tough fitting.

General Discussion / Re: 302 with crossram dyno numbers

Ignition is stock distributor and coil, plugs are 44 Autolite, 36 total advance. Compression is 11.1, the combustion chambers are a little big, came that way from factory, and I wanted to run a composite head gasket, so I had J&E make pistons to my specs.

General Discussion / 302 with crossram dyno numbers

Rebuilt my 69 Z engine this past year. Been in the car for 35 years and I decided to go through it. Only variations from stock specs are .040 overbore, 3927140 off road camshaft, stiffer valve springs, 69 GM crossram, and 1 5/8"primary 3" collector equal length headers. Best numbers were 370 lbs. torque @5700 and 417 H.P. @ 6700.

Right in that 1976 timeframe I went to look at a Z-28, engine out up side down on the carport floor with a bad crank. Car was silver, black stripes, radio delete with 30,000 miles showing. Had a few scuffs wasn't a garage queen, passed on it at $1400.00. Like to have that opportunity again.

I stripped a JL-8 car in 1976. Car had had a very rough life totaled and rebuilt, then wrecked several more times. My brother and I bought the car for $1800 (borrowed the money from our Dad). I thought I would put the rear-end in my Z and sell the car, then I realized the whole front set was different. So I pulled the cars nose to nose and took everything down to the master cylinder. I took the brakes, my brother swapped the trans, heads and intake for junk stuff and we drove the car to Seattle and sold it to a dealer for $1800! Still running the brakes, long story, but shows how different times were.

Trans-Am Camaros / Re: Track RPM?

Jon were there any modifications allowed, head porting, compression, etc? I've read that top teams made power in the 450 range, good #'s for stock stuff.

I was thinking higher on the low side with a four speed they would have wanted to keep up in the power range. Just a guess haven't ever done that type of racing.
