General Discussion / Original key envelope
April 08, 2023, 05:57:21 PM
A friend of mine has a classic key business and asked if this original envelope was a '69 Camaro only item, notice the key is squared vs the reproduction ones which are hexagon shape, does anyone know?

Mild Modifications / Factory T.I. adapter
December 06, 2022, 05:34:54 PM
Has anyone here used this adapter to get their TI to work with a factory tachometer? I am installing an over-the-counter NOS TI in my '69 Z and looking for the easiest, least intrusive way of integrating this adapter in my wiring and am hoping someone has been successful installing one and can give me advice before I cut any wires. By the way, Wayne Guinn was very helpful in advice for integrating my TI unit to the factory wiring.

Garage Talk / Crazy Bid
October 04, 2022, 06:09:34 PM
I recently bid on a '69 Camaro Pace Car(350CI) and a 70 Chevelle SS Big Block at the Fountain City Wi Auction by Mecum last month and was not able to see the cars in person, so I bid online assuming that they would need a full restoration since I did see some Bondo at the front fender of the Camaro, well, I bid 30k on the Camaro figuring 2k in addition for shipping I couldn't get hurt that bad, but it went for 45k, however the reason for the post is that the Chevelle Lot #168 went for $242,000 when Mecum estimated it between 25K and 40K?? and thought it was a typo at first and I believe that's high money even a fully documented and restored LS-6, I know this is a Camaro only site and that's why I posted it on garage talk, because I'm real curious if anyone on this site knows what the story is behind it or if Anyone attended at that auction?

Restoration / 1969 Rear Window Installation
July 11, 2022, 06:01:45 PM
I'm getting ready to install the glass on my recent restoration and saw the post regarding factory installed windshields, but my question is, were the rear windows installed with the same cloth dam or did they use a different material?

Decoding/Numbers / Factory Axle Stamp?
March 28, 2022, 05:03:04 PM
I was bead blasting my 12 bolt 4:10 rear end I had bought a few years ago and noticed grinding marks once the old paint was blasted off, it's not original to my car however I will be using it and just wondering if the factory did that?, are they original stampings?, also you can see the "E" stamped twice.

Does anyone know where to acquire a correct white colored fabric ribbon similar to what the factory used in installation?  The old threads on this subject did not have any recourses at the time and wondering if anything like that has come available for a factory correct windshield installation.

Restoration / 1969 backup light restoration
December 06, 2021, 11:17:47 PM
I'm looking for advice in regards to my RS backup lights, I have the originals which are in great shape other than some minor pitting on the chrome and would like to send them out to be re-chromed , however I cannot figure out how to remove the wiring harness without damaging it. Any suggestions or know a business that can restore them? Thanks in advance

Originality / Comfort Weave Seats
August 19, 2021, 12:14:53 PM
Does anyone have any recent recommendations for where to buy correct comfort weave material? I took a seat from my '69 to a upholstery shop hoping he could simply stitch  a separated seam, but he said the woven material was to brittle and that he could replace just the comfort weave portions since the rest of the seats still in great condition , so I'm looking for the correct material or replace the whole seat cover if correct reproductions are available but have not seen any updates on this site or others.

Mild Modifications / 1969-Z wheels
August 11, 2021, 01:18:21 PM
I'm trying to decide if I should use the stock 7"X 15" YH wheels in front or 7"X 14" for my '69 Z in combination with the 8" X 15' AZ Vette wheels in the rear, I am doing a correct factory restoration but I don't plan on having it judged, just want to have fun on the way to car shows.
Any feedback is appreciated!

General Discussion / Reunite my freind with his '69 Z
August 03, 2020, 11:50:39 AM
I had lunch with My friend Tom the other day who is a long time member of NCRS and owns a '78 Camaro he bought new along with a 64 and 65 Corvette and has got pretty excited when I told him about my high school car a '69 Z that I'm restoring and he said he will be selling his 64 Vette and really misses his '69Z that he had to sell when he was called into the reserves and would like to buy one just like it, then he told me he had the original dealer order form from Yarnall-Todd Chev. in Chicago, and I mentioned to  him that I would reach out to the members of CRG to see if any info. is available. The VIN # 124379N535066, it was a Hugger Orange Rally Sport Z-28 with black vinyl top, M21, Console, Head Rest Car , power steering and brakes, rear antenna, flat hood and chambered exhaust. any info. would be appreciated, Thanks!

General Discussion / Can't Stop
July 14, 2020, 01:48:52 PM
I just finished a full restoration on my'68 SS Vert with factory rebuilt disc brakes and had everything working good when I assembled everything about a year ago and then brought it back to my painter to touch a few are areas after final assembly, the problem is that the brake pedal went to the floor after sitting for that time and found a small leak at the proportioning valve located under the driver door which I tightened successfully, and after bleeding the brakes had some resistance but the pedal still goes all the way down to the floor and I have bleed the master cylinder and all of the brakes numerous times and I'm at my wits end on this one!  I have restored numerous cars over the last 40 years and never ran into this before, I had everything professionally rebuilt and is factory and see no leaks anywhere...help please, any ideas?

General Discussion / RS Z fender emblem
May 01, 2020, 02:30:46 PM
Along the lines of fender emblems, I have RS Z-28 that was built the third week in August '69 and has the rally sport emblem but I have seen original RS Z's without that emblem, my question is did they start adding that sometime during the model year or was the factory sporadic on installing them through 1969?

Restoration / Rear Wheel Housing Paint
February 04, 2020, 05:18:21 PM
I have been chipping 50 year old Ziebart under coating from my '69 Z and realized that it kept this car from turning into swiss cheese in the Midwest winters! It really preserved the original paint and discovered that the rear wheel housings show only the primers and the original metallic frost green paint with no sign of blackout, my question is did the factory ever blackout the rear wheel housings like I see on so many restored Camaros? or when I repaint the car replicate what's in the picture, I also posted the part of the underbelly where you can clearly see the frost green overspray and then the blackout overspray for the rocker panels since this car is a rally sport Z.

Originality / Mystery Screw on Firewall
August 27, 2019, 03:23:17 PM
Does anyone know if the screw that is shown on the firewall for the cowl induction relay or was added for something like a aftermarket coil? This car had a factory cowl induction hood but was not hooked up or had any of the components on it when I bought the car, I'm getting ready to blast the body for restoration  remove the screw and braze the hole if it's not stock. Thanks in advance

Originality / Rear seat X-code?
August 26, 2019, 11:14:36 AM
This weekend was spent disassembling my  '69-Z interior and discovered the "X" code which was DG X3 , can I assume the DG represents the  interior color?(which is a Midnight Green Deluxe interior) On a side note I attached a couple of pictures of stickers attached to the rear metal side panels and door panels which I discovered after removal the interior panels, I haven't seen these before?

Restoration / Best reproduction Bumper?
August 19, 2019, 03:50:34 PM
I am getting ready to order front and rear bumpers for my '68 and willing to pay up for the best quality but I am sure confused to see the descriptions and prices all over the board, for example Heartbeat City offers two, the first one says concurs quality for $332 and the second one says OEM quality for $159 , I want my project to be as close to factory as possible because it has almost all original or NOS parts, any suggestions advise or experience with these would be appreciated before I order them.

Restoration / covertible Header Seal
July 03, 2019, 01:23:06 PM
Help! I'm in the process of restoring the convertible to frame for my '68 and need to find out what type of fastener goes into the holes in the picture, my original top had the weather seal but was missing the fasteners that went in the metal tabs, are they plastic plugs or some type of screws? Thanks

Mild Modifications / Project X-Ram
June 11, 2019, 10:48:05 AM
I was going through some old GM NOS parts I had for years in storage that I though to use on the 302 X-Ram engine I will be building this summer and was wondering if these parts would work and if anyone has used these  type of light weight flywheel and if so did it improve performance? I also found a #140 off road cam that I plan on using and need to find out if that valve spring is correct for it? Thanks in advance.

General Discussion / AV Gas Warning!
June 04, 2019, 06:05:34 PM
I wanted to share an incident that happen to me last Friday in hopes no one on this site will ever have to deal with my experience. I have three Camaros at this time with other collector vehicles and one happens to be 1967 Amphicar which I have had stored for seven years and my wife convinced me  to get it out for a swim in July with family and friends, so last Thursday I went to the local airport and bough five gallons of AV gas which I have used in my collector cars many times before with great success, so I drained the old fuel added the AV gas , changed all the fluids and had it running perfect, so on Friday decided to detail the car(boat) but when I turned the key to turn on the blower a wall of fire exploded in my face and I was literally covered in flames, so I went into panic mode  and grabbed a fire extinguisher which allowed me enough time to push the car out of the garage and call 911. After 6 hours in emergency with 2nd degree burns on my arms and 1st degree on my face and a car burned to a crisp, I wondered why and how this could have been prevented and I know that if I would have used normal auto fuel I would have certainly smelled the fumes and not tried to start the vehicle, my point is that AV gas has a very faint smell and with collector cars  there is often leaks that may not be detected with AV gas! therefore a great alternative is non-ethanol pump gas with octane booster if needed. P.S. learn from my mistake!

I am working on the manual convertible top for my '68 and have this mystery part that was with the other top parts when I got the car years ago, does anyone know if this lever looking part even goes with the top?
