Originality / VIN stamp location
July 16, 2012, 07:38:39 AM
There's a '69 Pacecar for sale with a pic of the engine pad stamp.
It shows the engine code on the left and the VIN to the right. Looks real enough but I thought the VIN stamp at Norwood was relocated to the rough cast by the oil filter around Dec. '68.   This is a late Feb. assembly. What gives?

I'll post a pic shortly.

Originality / 69 Z restamp?
February 12, 2012, 01:18:52 PM
I was always under the impression that the engine block and trans were, as a matter of routine, VIN-stamped at Norwood with the same tool.  And, that the fonts would then be identical. So if the 2 are of completely different fonts, I am inclined to assume restamp.  Am I correct?

Originality / ?Fake POP?
December 31, 2011, 11:52:20 AM
I'm looking at a 69 Camaro car that has on the POP a sale (delivery date) 3 days BEFORE the engine and trans date stamps. Fake or am I missing something?

Originality / orig window sticker??
August 17, 2011, 07:15:37 PM
I'm looking to buy a camaro with claim of orig window sticker but the options that are listed don't seem to jive with the RPO data on this website.  For example, it's supposed to be an orig SS but sticker has D96 stripes on it.  RPO list says N/A w/ SS.

Also, it has U17, U 35, and U63 all on the sticker.  RPO list says U16 N/A w/ U17.

Is this proof positive that the sticker is fake??

Thanks!

Originality / sheet metal dating
April 04, 2011, 06:22:15 PM
Would someone please help me with determining whether or not my sheet metal is original?  I read thru CRG info and know (I think) how to dechipher the #'s, but where are they?
I found the one on the hood.  It's original. Can't find anything on the deck lid.  What's left are all the fenders and door panels. Can one find the date stamps without removing them? If so, exactly where should they be?

Thanks!

Originality / valve covers
March 27, 2011, 06:51:13 AM
OK, clear up something for me, please. I see a ton of pics of "Original, unrestored" 69 Camaro SS  350cc/300hp engines with the "finned " chrome valve covers, like those on the Z/28's.  I thought all the L48 engines came with smooth orange covers.  Am I wrong?

Maintenance / temp guage
January 04, 2011, 06:15:05 PM
The temp gauge on my 69 L78 never moves above the 2nd line above "cold", even after driving for half an hour.
Is that normal, or is it a bad gauge?

Thanks,

Ron

Originality / Custom Interior 69 Camaro
January 04, 2011, 06:05:40 PM
Ok, help me with this one.  I've read the CRG info on this but am still confused.  I've seen 2 '69 Camaros in the last 2 days that had "custom" seat covers (which I am defining as ones with vertical bands as opposed to horizontal) and "standard door panels" ( which I am defining as without the carpeted bottom.)  I had always thought that "custom interior" meant you get vertical bands on the seats AND carpet on the bottom of the door panels. Never mixed.

Am I wrong or are these cars restored incorrectly as far as factory correctness goes?

Thanks.

Originality / 1969 SS striping
December 21, 2010, 10:08:01 PM
Two questions:  Did any '69 Camaro ever come from the factory with Rally (hood/decklid) stripes that was not a Z28 or Pacecar? Was it even an option for any of the other ones, for example an RS Camaro?  Secondly, is the striping in the attached photo a factory striping for any 69 Camaro?  This one was an early build. Thanks!

Originality / original heater hoses
November 24, 2010, 07:14:49 AM
I'm seeing more and more "original, survivor, unmolested, unrestored" '69 Camaros for sale with pictures of the engine bay showing red heater hoses.  I've never seen a restored one with them. Did they ever come with red heater hoses from the factory?

Restoration / shocks for L78
October 29, 2010, 07:55:04 PM
Could someone help me with choosing new shocks for my '69 L78?  Are there such things as "NOS" shocks and if so, where can I shop for a good deal?  What should I expect to pay? If not, what's the recommendation?

Thanks!!

Maintenance / M22 fluid leaks and checking
October 12, 2010, 11:45:40 AM
Can anyone tell me how I can check the transmission fluid level on my '69 L 78.  It's an M22 and I notice small leaks of light brown fluid from several areas of the housing after driving.  Is this normal? Thanks!

Maintenance / L78 stalls when hard braking
September 22, 2010, 06:12:57 PM
I'm finding that my L78 is stalling during hard braking even with the clutch depressed.  Is this common or something that needs to be fixed?

Restoration / looking for reasonably-priced 837 alternator
September 09, 2010, 08:14:39 PM
Is there such a thing as a reasonably-priced 837 alternator out there?  My 69 camaro is a 5E build and I'd like to find one that is date correct. The only one out there I can find is $1150!!!.  I'm thinking half this price. Am I dreaming or are there other ones out there?

Restoration / resonators
September 09, 2010, 07:18:28 PM
I'm getting a crossflow muffler installed on my '69 L78 tomorrow am and was wondering if anyone has any experience with resonators. They are on there now (w/o the muffler) and I need to decide if I am to leave them on or remove them. I belie ???ve either way would be correct for a 5E build.  I think it's too loud now but would like to keep a low rumble with the muffler.  Any thoughts?

Maintenance / Gasoline smell
August 11, 2010, 05:37:05 PM
Everytime I take my '69 L78 out for a spin and park it in the garage, it seems like the smell of gas is strong for the next 24hrs or so.  Is that normal? I do leave the hood open as I have it hooked to a trickle charger.

Restoration / mufflers
August 06, 2010, 08:00:25 PM
Hello everyone. I have a '69 L78 that had no mufflers when I bought it.  Instead, I think it has what are called "firecrackers?"  A bit loud for my taste and I'd like to get regular old mufflers for it. My questions are: Is there such a thing as "date-coded or "proper mufflers for this 5E build? And, I've seen 2 different configurations in photos, one with 2 separate mufflers and another with one transversely oriented muffler in front of gasoline tank. ?crossflow?  Jerry's book shows only the single crossflow pattern.  Are all the pics of the 2 separate mufflers incorrect for this car? Thanks!

Mild Modifications / '69 clutch adjustment
July 18, 2010, 05:27:15 PM
Anyone have any suggestions for attaching something to the clutch so shorter persons like myself don't have sit so close that the steering wheel is in your chest. Any products or ideas would be appreciated.
