Maintenance / Waterless coolant
December 20, 2022, 01:03:42 PM
Any opinions about replacing 50/50 mix coolant with a 100 % waterless coolant (evanscoolant.com) in my '68 350.   Have never used anything but a 50/50 mix.    Just curious if anyone has tried it.

Maintenance / Intake Manifold Oil Seepage
August 02, 2021, 10:03:30 PM
68 Camaro 350 with Edelbrock performer intake manifold.   Getting a little oil seepage around center bolts.  No problem for 400-500 miles then slight seepage starts again.  Before resealing I always clean the bolts in solvent, clean the bolt holes & run a pipe thread reamer to be sure there's no residue/oil, etc, in the bolt holes.   I use ARP thread sealer.   Any suggestions for a better thread sealant?   How about Permatex High Performance Sealant 56521?

Maintenance / Turn signal switch replacement
August 06, 2020, 08:46:29 PM
Need to replace the turn signal switch on my 1968, 4 speed, floor shift coupe w/power steering.   It's a 4th week of April 1968 Van Nuys build.   I have not disassembled the steering wheel, etc. yet, as I wanted to order parts first for quicker repair.   I assume I need an 8 pin turn signal switch assembly w/connectors, or a 9 pin with the steering column lamp stuff removed.   Two questions: 1.  I see references to the emergency flasher actuator hole being either round, D shaped, or O shaped.   Any way to tell which without disassembly, and does it matter?  2.  I see "Boyne" mentioned in reference to some steering columns but not sure what that means?  Thanks.

Under a shelter in place order, so plenty to time to get an early start on springtime projects.  Decided to replace my 68' standard door panels & clean/lube window & door gears/mechanisms.  50 plus years of gunk.  Any suggestions for the best grease/gunk removal product?   Any recommendations on the best lubricants to use?

Garage Talk / Good Bye Street Rodder Magazine
January 15, 2020, 09:33:12 PM
Just got a letter from TEN Publishing that they are discontinuing the paper version of Street Rodder magazine a/o 1/2020.  Apparently they have or will shortly kill off the paper version of 19 total automotive magazines.  Don't know about you, but I prefer paper versions of car magazines vs going on line (digital versions).  Oh well, looks like Hot Rod mag. will still be around (at least for now).

General Discussion / Passenger door mirror
June 28, 2019, 02:24:45 PM
Too many close calls backing out of my garage.  It's time to install a passenger-side door rear view mirror on my '68.   Checked out various posts, but still not sure exactly how far back to mount it.   Would like to locate it similar to drivers side mirror, but not sure this would give me good side/rear visibility when sitting in the drivers seat.   Any suggestions?

Restoration / 1968 quarter window rubber seals
April 18, 2017, 06:14:22 PM
What's the best way to slide in new quarter window vertical rubber seals (weatherstrips).  I was going to wet things down with soapy water & slide them in.  Is there a better way?

Maintenance / 68 350 engine - how to start
February 14, 2014, 01:33:55 PM
Have a (numbers correct) 68 Camaro 350 engine that's been in a boat for years.....time to put it back in a Camaro.  It's been sitting in the boat, unstarted,  for 8/9 years.  Fuel was drained, new oil put in (years ago).  What's the best way to prepare it for cranking/starting.  Don't want to damage the cylinder walls, etc,

Restoration / Rear Axle U Bolts
November 09, 2012, 12:21:52 AM
In 1968, were all 12 bolt rear axles equipped with two U bolts 3930054, or only those with the 396 engine?

Restoration / 68 Custom Interior Seat Emblem Backing Plate
September 02, 2012, 11:45:06 AM
For several years tried to locate new (or used) 68 custom interior seat emblem backing plates.  Finally made some up from scratch.  Fyi...if anyone needs them, they are now available from Classic Headquarters.

Originality / 1968 Rear Bumper Guards
July 22, 2012, 08:22:15 PM
Tried to read all old posts regarding small rear bumper guards.  Still confused.   Were the small rear bumper guards available on 68 camaro's?   If yes, part of a package or available stand alone?

Restoration / Control Arm Bushings
July 13, 2012, 12:32:03 PM
Need to replace control arm bushings on my 68 SS 350.  What's best to use, poly or rubber?  It's a weekend driver...no drag strip or autocrossing.

Originality / 67-68 Front Spoiler
June 12, 2012, 11:20:54 AM
At some car show recently, have seen front spoilers painted the same color as the body.  Thought front spoilers only came from the factory unpainted (blackish plastic color), so assume the painted ones are incorrect?

Maintenance / Battery Chargers
May 01, 2012, 11:22:19 AM
Looking for opinions on the best/safest battery trickle charger to purchase.  I usually connect my regular battery charger every now & then when the 68 has been sitting for long periods of time.  Would like to utilize one of the smaller battery maintainers/trickle chargers that I can leave connected all winter.  Have an Optima AGM style battery.  Thanks.

Maintenance / Fueling my '68 in Calif.
April 24, 2012, 12:14:00 PM
Last Spring I did a post, looking for suggestions on how to pump fuel into a '68 without spilling any.  Live in Calif. (Bay Area) where we have those nasty pump nozzels that are great for the environment, but make it real difficult to get a tight seal at the fuel tank neck.  I've tried several after market devices (clamps, u shaped slip-ons).  Tried sticking my finger against the nozzle rubber, etc.  Nothing seems to work.  Currently, putting my 68 year old knees on the ground, press the fuel nozzel tight as I can against the filler opening, and hope for no leakage (no leakage jokes please).  Usually back off every 2/3 gallons to let air out of the tank.  Still get some fuel spill untill I get the nozzel position and seal just right. Any suggestions?

Restoration / paint color match
March 12, 2012, 01:52:22 PM
Kurt, some time ago you posted a web site that had cross references/matches of Camaro colors to current PPG colors.  Having trouble locating it now.  Can you help.  Trying to match my 68 exterior Z British Green to something that meets al of todays EPA etc. standards.

Thanks,
Joe

Restoration / fuel tank paint
March 05, 2012, 12:19:54 AM
My fuel tank is currently black.  Would like to paint it to look factory original.  Any suggestions on what paint gives the best match?  How about for the straps?

Restoration / Body Sill Moulding/Rocker Panel Moulding
January 12, 2012, 09:39:45 PM
Any pointers on the best way to replace the body sill moulding on a 68 non RS.  Don't want to damage the paint.  Do you just remove the 2 end screws and just pry the moulding off the retainer?  Does the new moulding just snap onto the retainer & the screws go in?  If it snaps in, top or bottom first?

Restoration / Restoring Window Mouldings
October 05, 2011, 06:38:16 PM
Looking for suggestions on the best way to restore front & rear window mouldings (hopefully without taking them off the car).  Mine are in good shape, but real dull & discolored.

General Discussion / 1968 Front Spoiler
September 15, 2011, 05:46:27 PM
Read most of the old posts regarding front spoilers.  Did the 68' front spoiler help with engine cooling (by forcing more air towards the radiator/engine), or primarily just aid with down force?

Restoration / Horns

Are 1968 horns and attached brackets identical for standard and RS....just mounted in different locations?
