A 1967 Royal Plum with Beige/Light Fawn (off-white) top has surfaced. It was apparently made into a race car and painted different colors in 1969. The original drivetrain is gone but it may still be in the Orlando area.

Well I was initially very very suspect of this car, its tag authenticity and the original color.  Others thought the tag was fine. I guess they were right and I was wrong. 

This car is named Lightning. There was another car prepped in an almost identical manner, raced as Thunder. Thunder was not a big block car originally.

The cars were painted in this scheme by Bo Laws. They were lettered and raced by the Vincent brothers. If you know any race history on them or location of any of the original drivetrain components of the L78 car, please post here. 

It is located in Poland. Owner Andrzej Idkowiak. Block is posted in Facebook group Lost classic cars and  parts orphan group

Would something like this have any interest by you all? I also have other dimensions for interior and weights. 

Over the years I have seen many questions about how the dimensions of 1967 or 1968 Camaros compared to 1969s. Some of the small differences of a tenth of an inch or so in the following tables could be just due to measuring error. Camaros for 1967 and 1968 shared very similar body structure and dimensions. The overall length for 1969 is slightly longer and the width is slightly wider, but the wheelbase is the same. For length, the difference is mainly in the bumper design. For width, the main difference is in the quarter panel area.

We have seen this before. But here is a BU sticker on a brake drum from a 1968 Z28.

Someone asked me about big block timing covers earlier this morning. I won't put them on the spot, but wanted to get this posted.

Anyway, it doesn't seem we have anything on the main site in the engine section about timing covers. If it is there, I apologize. I was asked the differences. specifically when the dowel holes were added in the cover. I was thinking for 1969 but couldn't remember. So I checked into my files and found an old post that I had saved from the Chevelles site. I believe this information to be correct from what I have seen. I am not taking credit for writing up the information pasted in below in italics. That is from Jeff Helms, a highly respected Chevelle expert. There would be no reason for the timing covers on Camaros to be different than on Chevelles.

Kurt, if you want me to work on a section to put into the engine write-up, I can work on it. Just let me know. If you don't feel this post is appropriate, remove it.

There were at least 10 different BBC timing covers that were used between 1965 and 1969 (five for the 7-inch balancer and five for the 8-inch balancer).

1. The 1965 - early 66 covers used a non-dowel pin cover with a very small, square timing pointer. They only have A-O on them and not A-O-R like the later covers. They have a captured nut in the bottom center of the cover which matches up with a bolt hole in the front center of the oil pan.

2. The 2nd design 66 cover is identical to the above but has the larger A-O-R timing pointer (angled on the 8" balancer version).

3. They dropped the front center bolt hole in the oil pan at the beginning of 67 production (some say they did so late in 66 production but I have seen no original late 66 car or original and complete late 66 396 or 427 engine that bares that out). As a result, at the beginning of 67 production (or some time after that) they dropped the captured nut and the hole in the bottom of the timing cover. However, the slot for the nut is still there in the U-channel reinforcement piece that goes across the bottom of the cover. There is no indication in the parts books of a new part no. being issued, though, which is odd. (Still no dowel pin holes either).

4. There is another cover that is identical to # 3 above, except it does not have the slot in the reinforcement piece for the captured nut. (Still no dowel pin holes). I do not know when this change occurred, and again there is no indication in the parts books of a new part no. being issued.

5. Then there is the 69 cover which has the dowel pin holes, and no hole, nut or slot in the bottom center. This one finally does get a new part number!

Many things were going on behind the scenes to make improvements to the site and to the forum the past few months.  The site has been moved to a new host, and hopefully will be more stable. You will also notice that we are now a secure site (https:/)

We apologize for the delays we experienced, but some technical difficulties and health issues got in the way. As volunteers, we run the forum because we love Camaros, not because we are web experts. We learned more about software and servers and we are happy to be back and hopefully things will be good to go for a long time.

Do any of you have a 1967 Camaro with 6 cylinder and a throttle cable? I have always been under the impression that the cable was not used until 1968.

A UAW strike hit the Norwood, OH assembly plant in early April, 1972. The strike lasted 174 days, the longest strike in GM history up to that point, and not be resolved until September 1972. The walk out left hundreds of Camaros, Firebirds, and Novas, in various stages of assembly, stranded on the production line. By the time the strike ended, production for the 1973 model year had begun at other assembly plants.

New federal bumper regulations had been implemented for the 1973 model year, and General Motors decided it was too costly to update the 1,100 1972 models left on the Norwood assembly line to 1973 standards. They were all crushed (around 40 nearly completed cars were stripped of their VIN's and donated to vocational schools).

A guy was able to purchase back his dad's old car. The car is in Egypt.

Not sure I have seen a tag with this many options.
