Foreign Camaros / 69 export (KPH) Speedo wanted

I am looking for a 69 export speedo. If you come across one in reasonable condition, please let me know.

Thanks,

I have repeatedly over the years received e-mail etc warning that cruise control in rain or snow can cause the car to accelerate out of control. I just received the message again, and went to snopes.com so I could refute the message, and they confirmed it. I still do not believe cruise will ever accelerate out of control because once you go past the set speed it cuts the throttle. Am I missing something? I have used cruise in snow and rain for decades, and never had a problem. Cruise is how I stay out of traffic court, keeps my foot away from the ticket pedal.

General Discussion / wheel size question
May 28, 2013, 10:20:59 PM
Called the local bone yard today, thinking I could get a set of "donut type" spares cheap for rolling stock. They told me GM changed the lug pattern and they don't have any wheels that fit a 69. Sounds wrong to me, any truth to this?

General Discussion / Need cheap insurance
April 15, 2013, 09:29:08 AM
Cheep insurance needed. My town code enforcement officer has issued a summons. I have to register or remove my car, and pay a fine either way. The old officer was OK, if it was under a car cover, the new officer is enforcing the letter of the code. I need to get plates, that means I need insurance. I know insurance has been discussed before, but times change. The car does not move, many parts are in the garage or basement. I need the cheapest policy available. Who would you call?

Thanks,

Mild Modifications / How to feed the TPI in my 69
March 01, 2009, 09:14:45 AM
I am looking for a compatible tank, or internal pump assembly to feed my 69 307. TPI is off an 87 305 firebird. I have most of the system, but not the fuel pump. I am wondering if anyone has come across a factory fuel tank with internal pump that will fit with minimal effort, or if there is a GM internal pump assembly I can use with a standard 69 tank. This is a budget build, so I would like to be able to find the parts in a bone yard. I am already aware of the 1000. plus custom tanks, and will not be going that route, but could buy a repro tank to modify if needed.

General Discussion / Two Guys Garage - 2 Camaros episode
February 04, 2009, 04:26:18 PM
Did anybody else catch this episode. I was disappointed. They examined a genuine 67 "327 RS SS", and a guest informed them there were no 67 or 68 BB Camaros. Same guest also mentioned how people used to slide surfboards in from the trunk through the fold down seat opening.

Mild Modifications / spindle length
November 17, 2008, 03:40:39 PM
I see adds for taller spindles to improve handling. I remember seeing ads years ago for spacers to do the same thing. All the ads I see for the tall spindles are also drop spindles which I'm not really interested in. Has anyone used the spindles, or the spacers and what is your opinion.  Are the spacers still available?

Mild Modifications / Steering column swap ??
November 17, 2008, 08:04:52 AM
Has anyone swapped a newer column into their first gen? I am swapping in a fuel injection from an 87 firebird, and one of the normal steps is to disable the VATS security system. I was thinking if I swap in the newer column, I could include the security with it. Might even get a tilt unit while I'm at it. If I do this and I put my original steering wheel on the new column I don't think most people would even notice it.

Mild Modifications / modern heads for a 307
July 10, 2008, 12:25:37 PM
Are there contemporary heads that will work well with the small bore 307? Is the 80's 305 also a small bore?

Thanks,

Tom

Mild Modifications / 87 TPI for my 307
June 22, 2008, 05:48:07 PM
I picked up a supposedly complete TPI from an 87 firebird in Carlisle. Came with a lot but I know I'm going to need more stuff. Plan is to put it on my 307, and when the chance comes along to pick up a good deal on a 200r4 to back it up. Will start cleaning and cataloging parts tonight to see what I do and don't have. I know the center head bolt angle changed in 87 so at a minimum I will need to elongate those bolt holes. I am thinking I can put an external pump where the transverse muffler would normally go, and reroute the exhaust. Has anyone else been through this? I think the 87 distributor will clear the firewall, unlike the earlier TPI systems. Lots of questions, lots of unknown, some time, little change. This will be a long slow process. If anyone has done this I would love your input. The question for tonight is does anybody sell a jig to drill out the manifold holes to fit my 69 heads.

Mild Modifications / thinking about a modern 302
May 07, 2008, 06:47:59 AM
Just wondering about the potential for a "modern" 302. If I recall correctly the 302, 327, and 350 all share a 4.00 bore. Any thoughts on recreating the 302 performance using an available 350 block, and hooking it up to a modern very high stall auto trans that could slip all the way into the high rev power band of the 302.

What I am thinking of is a land speed project in the 5 liter automatic trans class.

General Discussion / New web site - ticket-cam.info
February 01, 2008, 03:03:15 PM
Just registered a new domain, http://ticket-cam.info. not sure how I'm going to do it yet, but plan is to make location of fixed traffic cams available. NJ just legalized red light ticket cams, we can not be the only ones. If you know of the locations of fixed traffic cameras, let me know. Will only be hand updated at first, hopefully the process will be popular enough it will need to be automated. Plan would also be to update GPS systems with locations.

General Discussion / DX1 Stripe
December 24, 2007, 10:47:27 PM
I am looking for a photo of the DX-1 stripe stencils laid out flat. If anyone can provide I would be thankful.  I am trying to reproduce this stripe on a model.

While I'm here, Merry Christmas to all of you, and thanks for another year of education on this site.

Decoding/Numbers / Cowl decoded
August 18, 2007, 06:43:26 AM
Based on my cowl tag:

ST69  12347 NOR266605BDY
TR  727                 50  BPNT
    02D                   X11

If I have correctly decoded everything, my x11 307 powerglide coupe should be:
Dover white with Black vinyl top with z21 style trim, including: black sill paint (do I also need bright sill trim?), rear louver moldings. bright drip rails, wheel well moldings, black wheel opening pinstripes, bright taillight trim, bright headlight bezels, Black & Ivory interior,

I also appear to have the z23 interior group with:
stainless trip on pedals, front passenger grab strap, driver side wood grain including steering wheel.

I am looking for needed parts to restore the car, and would like to be sure I am looking for the right parts.

I have also purchased a fold down rear seat, and would appreciate clear photos of how that looks installed including side panels.
I might add the DX! stripes, If I do, doesn't that eliminate the wheel well pin stripes?

Thanks,

Tom

General Discussion / Carlisle
May 05, 2007, 10:46:07 AM
Who is planning on a run out to Carlisle? Since I have never met any CRG members (to my knowledge), is there a CRG event or presence there? I would love to meet up with others. I am planning a day trip on Saturday. Hope to meet some of you there.

Mild Modifications / 307 TPI conversion
April 30, 2007, 01:16:19 PM
I am planning to add TPI to my 307. From what I have read so far it looks like an 86 Camaro 305 or 350 system is the best starting point. This should bolt up to my existing, but not original heads. Has anyone here done this? Can I use the fuel tank pickup and lines from an LM1 or L48 to add the return line that will be needed for the fuel system to make this swap functional? Would you use an in tank, or external fuel pump? I would prefer to get this right the first time. I will also probably swap out the glide for a 2004r with the locking converter.

Does anyone near NJ or planning to hit Carlisle have what I am looking for?

Thanks,

Tom

Restoration / retrofitting fold down rear seat
October 03, 2006, 12:48:37 PM
I bought a fold down rear seat back recently, I am ordering all the hardware to install it. Can anyone provide photos of the installed hardware so I have a reference when I try to set this up? Also I would appreciate knowing if pictures are of an original fold down, or a later modification.

Thanks!

Mild Modifications / fold down back seat
September 23, 2006, 09:56:04 PM
Today I picked up a fold down seat back for my 69. It has some (very little) hardware with it. I presume I need the Fisher body manual for pictures. Don't have one yet, does any one have good photos showing the installation for the seat?

Thanks!

Decoding/Numbers / trim rings for rally wheels
August 31, 2006, 11:19:53 AM
My PJ 69 307 glide came to me with a set of 15" rally wheels with center caps but no trim rings. I know these are not original, but I like them. Can anyone tell me what trim rings I need? I checked two of the rims, the other two need rust cleanup. I hoping to find a set of rings at the fall Englishtown swap. Any help appreciated.
The numbers around the valve stems are:

K 1 8   5 valve 1 2 FW
and
K 1 7  8 valve 1 7 FW

Thanks

Mild Modifications / fuel inject my 307 ?
March 28, 2006, 09:33:11 AM
I have a plain 307 pg, with the original 2 bbl setup. I am looking to improve performance without overspending, and with as the original engine. Have any of you converted your small block to modern fuel injection? I am considering a junkyard system, so my questions are: What would be the best system for my 307? Which components do I need from the donor car? What additional components will be needed?

Thanks in advance,

Tom
