He is now making his repro tips exactly the same.

Originality / thremo housing #3896958
April 05, 2011, 05:27:35 PM
Aluminum thermostat housing #3896958 looks EXACTLY the same as the 3877660 housing.
Except for just the spring retainer flange is higher.
Anyone know what the application for the 958 is?

Decoding/Numbers / really nice car - was this possible?
October 12, 2008, 09:53:38 PM
This is a real nice 70Z listed on ebay.
I believe it is WAY over priced already, but I was watching for a bit.
still thinking of adding a 70 to my collection.

I may be wrong, but I did not think there was EVER a LT-1 or 302 produced at Tonowanda.
Anyone know for sure?

Seller has a lot of stuff to back it up - but I just thought this was not possible?

Originality / Smog hose part numbers
August 09, 2008, 05:32:48 PM
I am trying to duplicate the exact markings of the smog pump hoses.
I want to find the correct part numbers and different applications of the ribbed smog hoses?

Were both hoses the same part number? are different years the same?
I am finding conflicting data from what I see in my collection, and what is written in the AIM, and other books.

BB hoses are longer, but is the part number different?

Anyone have any pictures?

Restoration / Diverter valve question
March 13, 2008, 11:23:08 AM
Just sent out a bunch of diverter valve hoods to be replated.
have always done these in Grey phosphate - to match the many original NOS, and survivor ones I have saved.

Now I see in that new book that just came out....
the color is told to be either flat black paint, or Black Phosphate???

I have 32 hoods at the plater now - I want to get these right.
What is correct?
Thanks

Originality / Horn relay date question
July 04, 2007, 02:07:47 PM
The 862 and the 890 horn relays were both used during the 69 model year.
Does anyone know exactly when the changeover happened?  ???

Restoration / proper plating procedure
March 19, 2007, 07:41:54 PM
Got some smog check valves cleaned and ready to be plated.
Question:
Do I need to plug the ends, or were the insides plated also?
Will not plugging them harm their function?

Originality / Correct radiator for my 1967 396-325
November 09, 2006, 05:51:10 PM
Well, it is time to pull out the 67, and fix a few of the incorrect things that I
have been putting off all these years. (if it aint broke....).
i have collected the correct water pump, 4 blade fan and spacer.
And finally found the correctly dated 880 manifold.

The big item that I still need is a correct Harrison radiator.

Any Idea where i can find one?
I hear that Heartbeat has a very correct reproduction - is this true?
Or, should I continue to wait to find an original one? which is not getting any easier.
I have some harrison tanks, buy they are not Camaro ones, can anyone reconfigure them?

It says here in the reports, that I need a 3 core 23" for the 1967 L-35 Auto - 396-325
"67-68    BB auto =  OM"

Is this going to be less productive then the 4 core I am now using?
Should I just leave it alone? -
I am not running hot after many years of trial and error, here in south Florida.
Will changing from a 4 core radiator w/ 5 blade clutch ,to the correct 3 core radiator, and 4 blade fan-
going to give me problems?
Any opinions? ???

Decoding/Numbers / Very early NOR tag question
August 20, 2006, 08:56:25 PM
I just looked at a friends 67 Camaro today.
Something seemed unusual.

The car appears to be factory loaded with options. RS, SS-350, PS, PB, A/C, Deluxe interior, PG trans, front disc brakes, speed minder,
The trim tag does not show ANY of the options except 3K?
The car was built 09D, and has a very low VIN number.

Is this before the codes were on the tag, it is a NOR car.
Or maybe this was all added at the dealer way back then. Or added at sometime to make a better car?  I couldn't read the engine stamp, to confirm the 350, but the car really looked mostly untouched ???

Originality / Cooling fan and clutch question?
August 17, 2006, 11:48:03 AM
I have seen that all of the early Chevrolets used the short water Pump through 1968 (except Corvette = through 1972) With this pump was I thought Always used a fan with 3" bolt spacing. Now I find out from some people that the 67-8 Z/28, as well as the L-78 used the later 3.25" spacing.??  is this true?

I had thought that spacing was not used on Chevrolet motors untill 1969.

3.25"  is the spacing used for the later "long" water pumps.
Are the water pumps different on those 2 - 67-8 Chevy applications, as to use a differnt fan and clutch.

I know that all the other motor divisions used the larger spacing, and Chevy was different. Why were these 2 applications different then the rest of the Chevrolet engine line? ???

Originality / Smog tube question.
August 07, 2006, 01:32:26 PM
Wondered if someone could confirm for me the finish of the 1969 SB smog tubes.
I had thought in that they were to be Goldcad plated, but I see all the resto houses are selling black ones.

Which is right ???
