Completely concur with the molded hood insulation. Will run you close to $100, plus about $100 shipping. I got mine from National Parts Depot. Pics attached. This variant works for both flat and SS hood. They have different one available for the cowl hood.

All, I wasn't pleased with the painted option though it looked closer. I took a chance and ordered another set. Not perfect but doable. Thanks for the advice and perspectives.

Yeah... I am thinking of trying to spray the front panels. I have had reasonable luck with that and the OEM color seems to be pretty close, if not more tolerable than this bright gold. If this doesn't work, or regardless, down the road I will purchase another set being very certain to get the right color. I am finding both color lots on line. Same with the back side panels. I am finding the bright gold there too. With my Sierra Fawn exterior, the color I have throughout the interior matches very nicely.

Regarding 5) above, I think it is called a cam 'button'. Memory still fading a bit...

Some thoughts. I started with the intent of restoring to exact originality an RS/SS '67, 350 block, though I did not have the original engine. I found a correct engine for the powerglide, smog car as mine was out of CA. (Car VIN: ~17k, Nov '66; eng VIN: ~32K, Dec 66 - both from LA)

Push rod started to pop off the rocker and wear a bit on the head so I chose to go the roller rocker route, upgraded heads, 2.02 valves, etc...

From my experience I offer the following...

1) I was mindful of the 2-bolt main and showed some concern of building too much power into the engine. Roller cams can equate to higher RPMs. Stronger springs needed, etc... but 2-bolt mains operating above 6,000 rpms is risky business IMHO.
2) Roller rockers would require taller valve covers
3) Consider screw in studs/valve guides
4) For roller cams.... please be mindful of one thing if nothing else... gear at the bottom of the distributor must be changed to the softer brass gear. The factory steel gear will chew that camshaft up.
5) There is also the spacer (actual name is escaping me...) at front of the cam that needs to be installed to keep the cam from walking out of the engine. I pulled my timing cover off and saw the witness marks on the back side of the cover even though I had it installed. I ran the original '67 block for awhile, then...
6) Attached what is sitting in the car now. 383 stroker, 10.5:1, roller rocker/roller cam, 2.02 valves, alum heads, screw in studs/valve guides, dual quad - 2x500cfm.
7) The original SS350 engine is garage art, sitting on an engine stand next to the car.

Anyway... remains fun. Just something else to think about.

Quick update. The pics were taken in the evening with artificial light. The seat hinge covers, steering wheel and kick panels are the same color.

I had quite a bit of cracking in the door panels when I pulled this out of the barn awhile back. I purchase the deluxe interior kit but did not get around to installing the interior for some time. I now have it all in with the exception of the front doors. When I pulled the door panels they were a brighter gold. Thoughts? Kick panels, steering wheel and seat hinge covers are sprayed with OEM paint. In looking on line I am finding both the brighter color lot and ones that seem to match exactly. These were in the same kit. Could door panels be brighter that back panels? Tks.

They are the small clips in this photo, the ones that hold the pawl, connected to the lock cylinder.

All, I needed to replace my door locks and in transferring over the pawl I broke the little clip that holds the pawl to the cylinder. Any idea where I can get replacement ones? I can't seem to find a way to purchase these without buying an entirely lock set that has them included. Thanks.
