Quote from: boomer632 on April 29, 2026, 08:05:09 AMI remember reading somewhere.. probably here that all June cars were 06A and July cars were all 07A. Not sure if August cars followed that.

Maybe one of you guys have a link?

Aug of 1969 didn't. Mine is an 08E built 8/28/1969.....Joe

I think they appeared in 1971 or 1972 as a engine mount safety recall. Somebody will know exactly when. I always tell people to take them off during restoration because most are people restoring to day one....some to day 2....Joe

I had major problems. It was eating all the rubber brake pieces. I 1st discovered weeping from the jackets of the new brake hoses. I bled the system & discovered the fluid was grey & had tiny black specs. I ended up draining the entire system & flushing with denatured alcohol. One that was done, I had to take every brake component apart to put new kits in. Once I did that, I ran 2 quarts of dot 4 through the system. Now everything is fine. I forgot to mention that the master cyl, calipers, wheel cyls, & all the hose were brand new & everything was offshore. Mike Gibbons also will not warrantee any of his rebuilds if dot 5 is used....Joe

Quote from: GMAD_Van Nuys on April 16, 2026, 05:51:21 PMI used to put studs on the bell housing to make it easier to install the transmission.  Even using an alignment tool to center the clutch assembly, sometimes the spline on the transmission would hang-up.  Other times, the transmission would just slide in.

I might have to do that. I used to put it on my chest & lift it in place. At age 69 I don't know if I can do that today :(  Joe

The 02d is a projected date. You would need to get the NCRS report to see when the car was completed. Create shadows when trying to read the vin stamped in the casting....Joe

Originality / Muncie transmission bolt length
April 15, 2026, 03:15:10 PM
I need to find 4 bolts to hold the transmission to the bell housing on my 68 since I'm pretty sure GM didn't use Dorman bolts in it from the factory. I see some are 1-1/2 & some are 1-3/4. I put a 1-3/4" bolt in the bell housing & threaded it to the end of the threads with a lock washer in place & then measured the space between the lock washer & the bell housing. It measured 1/2" which is the same thickness as the ear of the transmission. Does anybody know for sure what length was used from the factory in 1968? Thank you, Joe

The small bracket that holds the vacuum can is slotted. That might help your adjustments....Joe

Quote from: x66 714 on March 22, 2026, 01:06:22 PMWhat does the casting area look like where it says "LOCK"? ...Joe
The pad where the word "LOCK" is moulded on should be rectangular shaped, NOT oval.
Never knew the difference until I saw 69 Camaros with original factory installed tilt wheel option.
They all had the same rectangular pad.
70+ Camaros had oval shaped pads.

Mine is original to my car. That's why I was asking him....Joe
