Thanks for the advice. Sounds simple enough.  My main question centers on the u shaped end of the strap on the axle side. Is is possible to remove it
without bending it open?

What is the easiest method to replace just the gas tank straps on a 1969 model. I am hoping that I do not need to take out the tank in order to get this done.
