HA!  Maybe.  But he loves his car and I'm trying to do whatever I can to help him.  That is why I'm grateful for the help on this site.  Especially to ko-lek-tor.

My friend's last email to me regarding cleaning them up was:

Yes, I did that with the right side, but the left side was crumpled from an accident before I got it so I want to replace it.

This article says that less than 100 were laid off, so I'm not sure why the other article says thousands.

I hope that's the right part.....I just reread his email and he wrote: "I bought trunk floor extensions, but they don't have that last 6 inches to reach the quarter panel."  

I will check with him to confirm.

A friend of mine recently picked up a 68 convertible Camaro.  It needs some TLC and he has just gotten started on rust repair.

Today he sent me an email:

I am stumped on a body repair:  When I cut off the rusty part of the left quarter panel, there are two body parts rear of the wheel housing that I don't know the name of, and can't find them illustrated in the 400 page manual or the sheet metal catalogs for heartbeat or Rick's. 

One of the parts goes from the trunk floor extension to the quarter panel.  Not the part that goes under the cocktail shaker, the part outboard from there.  I bought trunk floor extensions, but they don't have that last 6 inches to reach the quarter panel.

The other part goes vertically down from there, is welded at the back to the tail panel and at the top to the part described above.  It then connects with the quarter panel near the tail pipe.

No, not the frame rail.  Two sheet metal parts, one inside the trunk going from the trunk floor pan extension horizontally the rest of the way to the quarter panel (photos 2 & 5, 4 is the good one that is already on the passenger side).  The other is vertical, going from that part down to the bottom of the quarter panel ending by the tail pipe (photo 1 & 3).

Doesn't everyone drive onto the lift?

Last year I was in the Bowtie class and no lift.  First year Legends cars go on the lift.  If they don't have to recheck anything that needs a lift the following year you don't have to go back on.

maybe, but to me crazy is $500 for a repop worth $20.

an original bracket for someone with an original Z that really wants that part.....it's probably worth the $625.78 to them.

Does anyone know who sells the correct screw for the bracket?

Great story and GREAT pics DavidS. Could you PM me about how the dash was repaired and the VIN tag, since mine is going through the "treatment", I'd like to know any pointers?

At first I tried buying a complete original dash panel, but that didn't work out so well.  See here: http://www.camaros.org/forum/index.php?topic=9088.0

The VIN tag area didn't have problems and the shop that I had the car restored at always kept as much original sheet metal as they could. They cut up reproduction sheet metal and welded it in.

Great pics from 1969.  I do have a question on why your Z/28 has a black grill.  The reason I ask is that I also have a black grill.  I haven't figured out if mine was replaced at some point, but old pics of mine back to 87 show a black grill.  I just figured the silver one was replaced at some point.  Your pics are from 1969 and show a black grill.... did dealers install different color grills in some cases??   Puzzling.  

The black grill was painted on.  It was coming off in a bunch of places when I bought the car and you could see the argent silver under the black paint.  Maybe if you try chipping yours off a little, you will see argent silver underneath?
