Which raises more questions as the rivets obviously are not factory. Does the tag even belong to the car? It might help if you post the VIN.

 

Also any more photos/info of/on the black 68?

69 had the 2 types:; springs separate from the foam as in 67-8 and later had springs integrated into the foam as in your picture.

These are separate springs..

I'd say the front is a bit high. It likely will settle if the restoration is still fresh. Of course the rear may also. Suspension components (a-arms in front, shackles in the rear) should not be tightened until the entire vehicle weight is on the suspension.  You could try loosening the front a-arms and leave it that way for a few weeks to see if it settles.

A photo of the rear suspension from underneath may be helpful...

Thinking more about it, it probably is some type of spring stainless steel. Just my guess... I'd probably lightly wipe it down with 0000 steel wool for cleaning, but maybe that's a no-no ?  Sorry if I'm creating more confusion.

Must've been more than just a natural finish, otherwise it'd be rusty like everything else there. And if no rust, I don't see a need for Evaporust. It may do more harm than good..?

Without docs or the OE block, pretty much impossible to document an L89 from a L78. Is that a fair statement?
