It looks like I have the correct spare and inflator canister.. This is great news!

I remember everyone pulling the spare tires out of the trunk and it had nothing to do with it being a space saver or full size. Although it was well placed dead weight most people still considered unecessary weight and it also took up close to half the trunk space. People are lazy also... if the spare was ever used half the time it never made it back into the trunk.

One thing I have learned over the years is there are always exeptions to the rules.

Two way conversation...meaning no one else on this site seems to know anything about this spare.  We are getting plenty of hits but either no one knows or no one wants to help.  You posted this previously and I don't think you had any results back then...or am I wrong?

Original black cars didnt get the semi gloss tail panel treatement from my understanding.

If this is the case, your spare is much more accurate than mine. However, now we have two different individuals telling each of us that these are the correct spares. Again, I hope this doesn't turn out to be a two way conversation. Obviously more data is needed before a consensus can be determined.

How do you think my spare is more acurate?

Could the numbers on the tires that are different between mine and yours be the numbers he reffers to as envintory and shelf position numbers? If this is the case then that would make the tires identicle with only the codes on the wheel being different? Assuming they are all original first gen spares we need to figure out what the system was on the coding.

Also.. Was there more than one supplier on the space saver wheels and could this account for the different collors?

Im just posting all the information I can find on them so maybe we can learn a little more about them. Still have hope that someone will someday see this thread that has knowledge on the SSS and chime in with what they know.

Thanks for the info with regards to the decal.  

I'm just not sure how you can get a body tag so clean w/o affecting the surrounding area.  If paint remover or sanding was used the paint on the cowl would have been affected in some way and you would be able to see touch-up black somewhere.  The cowl paint looks too consistant right up to the edges of the tag.  Just an observation, nothing more.

There is something on the paint code that I'm unfamiliar with and maybe you can help me out...next to the dash (-) is the letter C followed by PNT.  Is this the code for Carolina?

The first dash denotes special paint and the second being the "C" means it had a dark blue vinyl top. Not sure about the differences between norwood cars and VN cars or if they differed.

As for the cowl tag being original it looks legit to me. I have cleaned cowl tags before with laquer thinner and a rag without affecting the firewall paint. They acually looked much nicer than that one.

I had this saved on my computer from an ebay listing for a supposed 69 Camaro space saver. Also gray in collor and other than the code identicle in appearance to both the one I posted and IZRSSS posted.

A vintage GM Space Saver spare tire! This was never mounted on the car and is in as new condition as can be expected for a spare tire! It is a GM spare and has the (MI) code by the valve stem. This was bought from a reliable Camaro NOS dealer who said the codes indicate it is for 1969 GM car. The center reads GM - 5 - NT by the center hub. It is 4 ply rayon. Inventory # 89524800. Shelf position = 121509-5.

As for the Carolina Blue car, if you recall its the same car Nikke tried to pass off as a Carolina Blue on this same thread on Sept. 19, pg 3. For one thing its an RS w/an SS Hood. The other giveaways...the body tag looks suspicious and it was listed in Deals on Wheels and now eBay...not very good sources for an original... IMO.

Its a norwood car as was the other AC equiped car I had with the decal in the center of the shroud.. will do on the pics.

Hes not trying to pass it off as an SS eqipped car though, probably just didnt like the standard hood look, I cant say I wouldnt have done the same thing. I personally didnt see an issue with the cowl tag, maybe you know something I dont?

BTW.. here is one of the few pictures of the wifes engine compartement that barely shows the placement of the original decal on the shroud.

The bracket was with the car but I think its for the later/smaller canister?
