General Discussion / Re: 1969 Camaro Z/28 on BAT
November 17, 2025, 06:02:10 PM
He did use photos.
I just had it done on a car for possible pre-sale. He authenticates it's a real Z/28 and checks a few items.
The block/Trans/Rear/Carb/Alt/Intake/1st Hidden VIN/heads/WP/Dash VIN tag/Cowl tag and a little more.
I made a mistake and sent him 200 pictures! He went above and beyond for 3.5 hours, then finally had to shut it down. There is no 2nd and 3rd sheet. Total cost $750. Worth every penny. He did the jack/V. Reg/Sheet metal/fuel pump/BH/horns/pullies/shifter etc. But he mentioned about 25 pic's is  the norm. Gotta contact him if ya want it done and HE will decide what to send him.

DATA ANALYSIS REPORT
                                 April 6, 2025
Mr. Daniel Cannuli
Data Analysis, 1968 Z28 Camaro
Vin #124378N481152

Dear Daniel,

After careful evaluation of the photographs you supplied to me, it is my professional opinion that the engine, transmission and rear axle in this 1968 Z28 are real and authentic to the car.  The vin stamp and assembly stampings are identical and match to all of my drive train stampings in my data base.  This was confirmed through data analysis.

V0718MO:    Original engine to vehicle, casting number 3914678, casting date G128, July 12, 1968.

P8S13:   Transmission assembled on November 13, 1967, authentic stamping with vin stamp to this vehicle. Late 1967 Muncie 4-speeds have been observed in similar late production Z28 Camaros.  I have another P8S13 Muncie 4-speed in my data base with a vin close to this vehicle, vin 8N480748.  The protect-o-plate shows the transmission assembly date of P8E18 for this vehicle. This warrants more research and could have been an error by the protect-o-plate operator or a repair issue with the original transmission stamped P8E18 destined to be installed in this vehicle.

BU0520G2:   Rear axle assembled on May 20, 1968, 3.73 standard recommended ratio, authentic to this vehicle.

Cyl Heads:   3917291, heads dated I297, J97, heads dated very early for an engine assembled on July 18, 1968, the casting dates Sept 29, 1967 and Oct 9, 1967 is a nine month spread from the assembly date.  This is the first time I have observed a spread of nine months from the heads to the engine assembly date.
When these cars were new, there was an issue with rocker arm studs pulling out of the head from high rpm abuse. I suspect it's possible these castings may not be original to the engine and may be replacements.

1100696:   This alternator is not correct for the 1968 Z28, should have a Delco #1100814 unit, the
pulley is also incorrect and was used on the 1967 Z28, not used in 1968.

Ring & Pinion: 3862513, pinion dated 2-68, 3862525, ring gear, original GM gear set, however the pinion nut has                                                                                                                                                                         come loose & cut deep grooves into the positraction unit.  This posi case should be replaced.

9078 booster:   This Delco brake booster is dated correctly for this Camaro.  The Z28 received a #9078 Delco booster.  The booster is dated 171st day of 1968 and is authentic to the vehicle.

DF Wheels:   DF rally wheels authentic & date stamped K18-7-16, dates line up with the build date of vehicle.

Fuel Pump:    According to my data from original survivor fuel pumps, #40524 AC pumps have been observed on original survivor Z28 Camaros, including my own 24,000 mile Z28.  The #40726 may be a service replacement pump.

Trim Tag:    The trim tag on this vehicle is authentic to this Camaro.  The 07E build date of the vehicle lines up      perfectly with the vin number sequence.  This car is LeMans blue with white stripes & blue standard
interior, code 717, the Norwood body number, #182154 was the first number assigned to the order when the dealer called in the order.  According to NCRS, this car was built on 7-30-68.

Voltage Reg:   This Delco regulator, #1119515 is dated 8G and is original to this vehicle.

Bumper Jack:   The bumper jack is dated 8G and is original to this car.

POP:      After examination, it's my professional opinion this protect-o-plate is original to the vehicle.  There
is an issue with the transmission code which was explained under the transmission data analysis.

Starter Motor:   This Delco #8367 starter motor, dated 8G18 is authentic and original to this vehicle.

Radiator:   This radiator was manufactured by Harrison and is original to the vehicle.  The tank date code OD
dated E of 1968 lines up with the build date of this vehicle.

Hidden Vin:   The hidden vin stamping on the top of the cowl area is untouched and original to the car.  This vin stamp matches the vin plate in the upper dashboard area.

Tire Sticker:   This tire pressure sticker is an original to the vehicle.  Reproductions were made incorrectly with the wrong broadcast code of AG.  Original 3934882 tire pressure stickers are coded AY.

Regarding data analysis on the other components, I believe the intake manifold, bell housing, side view mirror date 6-DMI-8, Muncie shifter, pulleys, horns, engine lift hooks and sheet metal are original to this vehicle.

General Discussion / Re: AC Fuel Pump Rebuilds
April 18, 2025, 12:39:07 PM
I had trouble with this issue MANY years ago. Car would NOT run and smoked. Fuel blowing by needle and seat. On advice from an old mechanic friend, I installed a $15 fuel pump from pep boys and problem solved. I said can I do THIS, or THIS. He said STOP. Don't tell me about anything until you install the cheapy pump and check the pressure. He was correct.
No matter what I asked, the rebuilder could not tell me what the final pressure would be at an idle or running down the road. So I did some experimenting. I wanted to retain the visual of the double AC embossed pump on several cars. I ended up hiding a pressure regulator in the first few inches inside the right frame rail. It has holes in the steel to run the lines. Did that to 4 or 5 different cars. Works great and nobody has ever noticed it after over 100 car shows. In fact, I just saw some light blue staining on one while I had it on the lift. Which is AVGAS. Guess I better take a look at that and see if it can be fixed. Or maybe just replace it. CRAP!!! I just looked at another car on a different lift and it has MORE blue stains on it. Always something with old cars. Danny

General Discussion / Re: 1968 Camaro Z/28 on Hemmings

Tell me about it  ;)  Here is one of my cars. And the owner's statement about painting at the time.

About this time is when I painted the white Z/28 stripes from the rear spoiler over the trunk lip and down the taillight panel to the rear bumper.  A stupid "Day two" modification, to distinguish my car from all the other Z/28's (Which weren't many).  To this day I regret doing that, but back then there was no cherished originality.  In fact, at one time, I was going to remove the Z/28 emblems and stripes and repaint the entire car with black lacquer.  Guys on the street were beginning to realize how fast Z/28's were, and I wanted to disguise that, a sleeper.  It's a good thing I never did that.  At the time I loved doing lacquer paint jobs and never heard the words "original unrestored", or "survivor".

Wow they took those stripes to the MAX!  ha ha  Never actually seen them go all the way under the rear window trim and over the cowl vent under the front window trim. Crazy... Even under the hood on edge of cowl. Might as well go right over the engine onto the rad support. Why wouldn't ya look online at a million pictures to maybe get an idea at least. Guess they didn't like it.
Looks like maybe no deep groove pulleys. 3/4" x 1/2" bushing in water pump, truck pump. 5 DF Rally Wheels go with it? No smog shown.
Pretty clean car. Of course, NO stamp pics or paperwork shown.  Danny

General Discussion / Headers Needed
January 15, 2024, 01:42:07 PM
Looking for a set of headers that are of good quality that are KNOWN in the hobby to be able to clear a power steering box without mods. Even pictures showing them installed would be cool. Car is a 1968 Camaro with a 327 4- speed...  Thanx Danny

Sorry, I meant the difference in MY hidden VINS. D

Found it.. It's in nice condition with the "K" stamping. Check your email... D
#13
Kurt,
Do you think the guy noticed the first stamp was out of line, then corrected it on the second? Were they stamped at the same time?... D

I might have an extra one. I can't remember.  Let me know if ya still need it and I'll look through my parts cabinets. I am pretty sure I don't have an extra bolt. But I don't want to look if you found one. I gave away a hexagonal water pump bypass fitting and a couple other parts, even paid the shipping, now I need them... ha  Danny
