I agree. Maybe the first car will be held as something "special", but after that they are just another car.

I'm no expert on the authenticity of stamps, but it was common for GM to use the number 1 in place of an I for assembly stamps.

Stay after him (without being too much of a PITA). If he knows you own its car, that might help persuade him, too.  Frank has a good idea, too.

Nothing in a first gens VIN will tell you which engine the car originally had other than if it was a L6, or V8 car. Those online VIN decoders are generated just to get peoples hopes up it seems.

That tag is obviously bogus. Even I can tell that, and I'm no expert.
