It does look like an 8 for the year, but I'd say it is actually a 9 vs an 8. The odds of getting a head exactly one year off the other is pretty slim, and I don't think the 186 casting came out until '69, anyhow. I could be wrong on that, thoguh.

Post clear pictures of the casting number, casting date, the pad stamp, and the partial VIN. Guys here will be able to tell if it is legitimate or not.

There were roughly 37k Camaros built after the auction car. Pretty naive of whoever wrote that description to think this was the last convertible.

Get good, cleat pictures of the casting number, casting date, engine pad stamp, and the partial VIN stamp on the block and post them here. Byron is exactly right. Norwood didn't start putting the X codes on the trim tag until well after September of '68.

Rear axle is stamped Jan 19 (0109), and tag is from a 4th week of September car, so those don't line up.

Seems strange to hide the body number if it is truly for "collector" purposes.

Honestly there isn't anything special about a VIN except to identify the car.

I agree. Maybe the first car will be held as something "special", but after that they are just another car.

I'm no expert on the authenticity of stamps, but it was common for GM to use the number 1 in place of an I for assembly stamps.
