Maintenance / Re: AC compressor
August 21, 2011, 05:05:27 AM
I have the same problem and have been putting off doing anything about it due to uncertainty in who can perform the rebuild. Any suggestions in the Southern New Jersey/Philadelphia, Pa area or otherwise? Thanks

General Discussion / Convertible Top Fluid Type
October 22, 2009, 12:40:37 PM
Hello,

The top on my 69 Camaro is hesitating when going down.

I have read prior postings about how to add fluid to the motor since I suspect this to be the problem. Most of what I have read discusses using ATF A for the system fluid.

I removed the rubber grommet, could not feel any fluid near the bottom of the hole. I used a paper towel end rolled up to place in the hole. The fluid on paper is not red and smells and looks like hydraulic fluid.

So, do I add hydraulic fluid to top off the level?

Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

Dennis

My thanks to everyone for their responses. I'm trying to get more reference material on the internet for more details to combine with the responses.

I have read multiple discussions concerning this and am not sure what is accurate. The front seal on my compressor went several years ago. The system is still sealed and I am preparing to repair the system and am thinking about converting to R134 once the compressor and dryer are replaced.

Is there a documented procedure out there? I read about flushing the system with brake cleaner and compressed air to changing the o-rings and hoses to doing nothing.

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks,

Dennis

Can anyone recommend a facility in Southern New Jersey or Philadelphia area that can rebuild the a/c compressor on my 69?
